Galadriel and her children
Hello I am ahuge fan of Galadriel and I have some questions for you.I have read the Silmarilion but some thing still remain unclear for me.DId Celebrian have the same fortune as Feanor's mother? Why did Celeborn give his wife the name Galadriel? Was Amroth Galadriel's son? What happened after she arrived in Valinor with the ring beare? The answers (as far as I know)
Celebrian passed into the West after being attacked by orcs. Miriel died after having Feanor - so they didn't share the same fate. Celeborn didn't name Galadriel. I would presume Galadriel's parents Finwe and Earwen did - she was named because of her golden hair. Amroth was not Galadriel's son. As for what happened in Valinor, I don't think it was ever mentioned. |
Mae Govanenn, Artanis. Welcome to our humble gravesite.
Celeborn did give her one of her names, Galadriel. it mean "Radiant Maiden" which explains why he called her that. In Unfinished Tales, it says that Amroth wasnt her son, since obviously that would have been stated. And i believ that in fact Celebrian was tortured.Theres a quote but, i dont remeber it exactly, it runs along the lines of this "Never forgetting their mother's torment at the hand of the orcs" (talking about Elrond's sons). |
Just a small correction Varda. Finwe is Galadriel's grandfather, his son, Finarfin, is her father.
And yes, Celebrian was held captive by orcs for some time before being rescued by her sons. She went West to Valinor to seek healing from the torment she had suffered as their prisoner. [ July 24, 2002: Message edited by: amyrlis ] |
