Time - A poem for the Elves

Time By Joy

The days are lenghtening,
yet the hour grows short.
Yesterday is a distant memory,
but tomorrow may never come.
Our doom has been pronounced
and we stand upon the shores
For soon shall the ships come
that will bear us across Time.

This is my first attempt at ME poetry (and for free verse, for that matter.)

You wrote that? Pretty it is!
I could never write something like that, in english I say. In finnish; millions of poems, but it's no use 'coz nobody could understand them if i'd put them in here
But still: Pretty poem

Eowyn of Ithilien 03-09-2002 05:43 AM

the call of the waves
the shifting sands
the cry of the gulls
whisper "Undying Lands"

know it's very rough but just made it up...and the "poem for the elves" was gorgeous

Nufaciel 03-09-2002 06:04 AM

Beautiful poem. You should try writing more.

Thank you, Thank you very much.

It only took me a few minutes to write. I just kept repeating the phrase "The days are lenghtening" over and over. I'm going to keep at this. It is fun. I love writing poetry, been doing this for about 8 to 10 yrs, though I write Christian and Inspirational.

If life is but a dream
And the day but never ends
If a frown is all I know
And all answers, "It depends"

If one day awake, but next to die
If I know not night from day
I will but then be happy still
Knowing you just looked my way.

Hmmm...Not the best poem I have written off the top of my head...but...pretty good...maybe I'll put it in its own folder...great poem to you though!
Amin mela llie (I love you all)!

That was awesome, Joy! You've gone & made the redheaded Eldarin Queen cry! *sniff, sob, snorrrrt - sorry about that! I do have a hanky handy!
Keep up the good works guys! We are blessed with some awesome writers here!

Here's another:

Hope by Joy
Cry for the Dawn of ages Past.
Look with eyes forlorn
against the day that shall be last.
Across the Great Sea shall sail
the ships that Eldars once borne
to Land where Hope will prevail.

Weber 03-09-2002 07:25 PM

Joy 03-09-2002 11:52 PM

Joy 03-10-2002 05:25 PM

Weber 03-10-2002 05:52 PM

Mayla Took 03-10-2002 05:55 PM

Do they have a website Weber?

Joy 03-10-2002 06:00 PM

I do know that Poetry.comgives away prize money for winning poems.

littlemanpoet 03-10-2002 07:55 PM

Poetry.com is in it to line their own pockets doing vanity press, at least for the most part. I got one of their books with one poem of mine in it and I was disgusted. The majority of the poems were really bad.

In the spirit of this thread, though:

The Sea calls with the cry of gulls,
the waves touch the shore with sighs of ever-morn,
calling us to leave these changeful lands
where leaves fall and trees are felled,
where mountains crumble and friends fall,
their doom unknown beyond Eldamar.

Beyond the Sea lie undying lands
where leaves never fall, flowers never fade,
the trees flourish, and our friends tarry.
We come, we come to see the light!
To the Sea! To the Sea where the gulls cry!

Don't you mean Elfis?

Thanks, Joy, for saying so, but I don't like how the first line of the second stanza and the last line of the first hit against each other wrong, if you know what I mean. Real Elves would do better, I'm thinking...
