how did sauron manage to trick the elves...

into making the rings of power and if the elves didnt know what they were to be used for how could they give them the power to govern each race?????????????????!!!!!!!!!!

Sauron was there when the rings were made, and he watched them as they were made, and they were tainted by him. I guess that's why....

Deception, silly.

Aramacil 08-21-2002 12:38 PM

the elfs are good, but they are not perfect.

they were just mislead by Sauron

Rhocolan 08-21-2002 06:52 PM

Sauron is better than the Elves. He is stronger and better...that's why........

He tricks them.

well several things.
1) the rings dont govern the races
2)he didn't trick them into making the rings, he helped them to make more powerful ones, and while making them he made it so they would corrupt the user. he helped with the making of the seven and the nine, although it is debatable over whether or not it worked on the dwarves (even tolkien is not sure) Celebrimbor alone made the three, so saurons taint was not upon them hope that helps

Didn't he also put on his most fair form? I read that somewhere and I think that must have helped with decieving the Elves.

Sauron mingled among the elves and decieved them. Sauron also a maiar that was corrupted by Morgoth.

Quote:

It was Eregion that the counsels of Sauron were most gladly received, for in that land the Noldor desired ever to increase the skil and the subtlety of their works. Pg 287 Silmarillion- Of the rings of poer and the third age
He was in disguise and only a few of the elves doubting him( Elrond and Gil-galad). He took on a name, meaning Lord of Gifts and offered to help and advise the elves. Sauron wanted the elves for their power. They were also harder to sway to teh "dark" side unlike the men. So the elves were greatly desired by Sauron.

That is atleast the start and what is offered in the Silmarillion( which I trust a little more then later stuff that has been put out).

Here are my two cents, for what they're worth (and I bet you can guess!):

-The elves have a history of being swayed by the wrong people. Just read the Sil...
-The Elvish rings weren't actually ever tainted by Sauron, because they will stand no evil. This is reverse logic here, but since I read part two, I assume part one is correct.

What do you mean part2? The second part of the Sil? If so, then you are right on that....it is one of the underlying themes.
