There is something about this forum that makes me happy. Nobody argues very seriously (I can't think of the Hobbits Unite cause as a serious one, sorry... I mean, elves are elves, grand as lords and merry as children, or sad, or everything), nobody goes showing off with their knowledge, although many have an admirable amount of it, newcomers get welcomed, smiles fill the screen, I mean, I know no forum like this. You are noble, folks! I thank you for lighting my days and I wish to be worthy of such company.

Agreed. There are very few forums like this, where they're are many kind and open-minded people. I've been to forums where people never accept other people's opinions, and cuss too much. So far of all the forums Ive' been to, there has only been twothat have good and respectful people. And that includes this one..

I agree. We can see from recent incidents concerning invaders from the plaza that most other forums are awful! I love this place - and I'm beginning to wonder if I'm actually addicted to it....! [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

yep starbreeze, got the feeling, i think i may be addicted to it....still, not a bad place to be addicted to, and it also good cos its not specifically about one thing, well i mean it is, but its about ALL the middle earth things, movies, books, background, extra sites, and very cool quotes...ive been 2 lots of chats, and a fair few forums, and none r as cool as this!

Some SPAMers that have been making a nuisance of themselves have been advertising some place called the "Plaza".

And I agree utterly with everyone here! This is the most wonderful forum I've ever been to and I have no desire to stop posting anytime soon. We should arrange a Barrow-Downs gathering in real life, or something; that'd be pretty cool! (Furries do it all the time so I figured, why not?)

I'd agree as well. I like a forum where you can have this much discussion and not be criticized by other users for spelling errors, SPAMing, etc... A forum as friendly as this is rather rare on the 'net.

I found this board after I got kicked off of the ign boards. I only posted on their LOTR boards though. One day I went to post some stuff, and a window popped up and said it was for Insiders only. From now on, you can't use their boards unless you pay $5 a month. They also swore a lot more, argued alot, and knew almost nothing about Tolkien. I went to the Onering.net boards, but it's kinda cliqueish(sp?) I read their stuff but never post.

You guys all make up a great board, and 'newbies' feel right at home! Let's keep it up! [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]

Wow, I've led a sheltered life [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]. I love this board and wholeheartedly concur with all previous posters on that subject [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]. I don't have much experience of other internet boards and came across this by accident - I was looking for Tolkien-related websites and pulled up the Barrow-Downs, and never left. If the recent spammers are any indication, though, I haven't missed too much by not hitting a lot of other places.

A Barrow-Downs get-together would be neat [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]. We could do a Middle-Earth banquet or something like that (probably in the same vein as an SCA feast, just altered slightly to include potatoes and tea and all those nice things which medieval Europeans never had but hobbits did). Especially since I'd get to see whether the faces I've been picturing for each name are remotely close to the real articles....

Actually that's the first LotR forum I subscribed to, so it seems I fell to the right place! I was mostly intimidated by the number of members: more than 2000 people in a single forum is way too much. But it seems that many have left since, and many others post very scarcely. Did you notice that before the release of the FotR film in November, the Barrow-Downs counted about 900 members? That makes some newbies, isn't it? (I know, I'm one of them...)

I must say I agree with all of you! I actually came across BarrowDowns by acident - when I got LotR and The Hobbit for Christmas, I went absolutely mad for Lord of the Rings! Then my dad was reading some newspaper, and there was an article with all the top ten LotR sites - and whaddayaknow, the BarrowDowns was in it! I tried all of them, and found that BarrowDowns was my favourite site - it's so warm and friendly, no-one cusses, it's always so interesting - I just love it!

Thank you, the Ops, the Chatters, and all the other members of BarrowDowns for making this site such a wonderuful place.

I am a member in a few other forums, not Tolkien forums though. In the others there are arguments quite often, not big ones, but still. And people aren´t as nice to eachother there as everyone´s here.
And I have checked other Tolkien forums, and I just know...this is THE forum, there is no better.
The atmosphere, the people, well, everything...The Downs has it all, everything´s perfect.
You all know what I´m talking ´bout, right?

Before I started to come here, I was member of a HP site, and thats where I got the link from.. unfortunaly, that great site shut down, so then I was almost totally away from internet for some months, and then, in december, I signed up here (though I had been here using the Name Generator lots of times inbetween).. and then, I got stuck.. As everybody else that starts posting here..
