Tolkiens Theme

Above all, what do you think is key theme in Tolkiens Writings and why?

I think this has been done several times before, but here is a link to a thread that has some other good links on it:

Tolkien's theme

If you use the search which is in the top right hand corner of the page, you can probably come up with a lot more things too.

I read the majority of those posts.. there are allot of different opinions.. a lot of contradictory posts as well.

Let me re-phrase.. if you were a teacher.. and you needed your students to write about a subject pertaining to Lord of the Rings.. what would the subject be?

It begin's:
Tolkien's theme in LOTR was X, X and X.

In either a story form or poem...

Oh, I see...thanks for the clarifaction.

Probably I would say that the three major themes of LotR are:

Sacrifice
Nobility/bravery
Love (selfless)

The sacrifice is clear in that Merry and Pippin go with Frodo, Sam and how he served Frodo (that would go under love as well...though not a sexual love, imo). And there are others.

The nobility would of course be fulfilled by Aragorn (particularly his humility).

And love is basically the two wrapped up into one.

Did I do better in anwering the question?
