icons

Hey ppl im kind of embarrassed about asking because I haven't been able to figure this out on my own (i usually can, mind u...) but anyways how do you get the stupid pictures to work?!?! Like the ones that show up beside a post? I try different pictures but i keep on getting the blank box thingy with an x in it!

Go to a thumbnail, right click on it and then a little menue will pop up. Click on the properties and another menue will pop up which will have a bunch of stuff on it. In the middle, there will be something that says URL and it will have something that says "http://..." the three dots represent the rest of the address. Copy that address and then paste it in the space provided for "Your Picture" in your profile. Make sense?

It's quite possible that the icon you're using is from a picture that is no longer available online. But otherwise, yes, go to My Profile and you can set it up there. If you like any picture on the internet, you can use your mouse to right-click on it. A menu comes up, and at the very bottom is a category called "Properties". Click on that, and the window that comes up will show you, among other things, the URL for the image. Unless the image is like, hyper-copy righted, you can copy that URL and put it in your window. You'll want to go with pictures that are meant for being icons, or that aren't too detailed. You'll also want to make sure they are entirely square...otherwise you get distorted images.

Check the FAQs if you still aren't sure.

Testing more than one process, hope they work and I'm not violating any protocol.

This is really a nice site. People offer help before anyone even asks and they don't get mad when someone new asks a operational question that was asked in the past.

Just make sure that you're not breaching any copyright laws by getting a picture off someone's site. Make sure that you either ask them if they mind you using it, or upload it to a site of your own, or ask me nicely if you don't have a site of your own and I'll host it for you. Welcome to the 'Downs!

Edit: Ah, well, actually...I don't mean to make the mods sound evil or anything, but there comes a time when they hear an FAQ one time too many, and sort of ...explode.
But I'm sure that will never happen while we're alive...dead...you know.

"Shoot me, shoot me Legolas."

Mindless fools.

Yeah, I'm not exactly to the "shoot me shoot me" phase yet but my friends think I'm getting there. Oh well, I try.
