YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BARROW-DOWNS!

On May 1, 2003, the forums at the Barrow-Downs will reach the ripe old age of THREE! While the site itself is a bit older, the third anniversary of the opening of the forums is a cause to CELEBRATE!!!!! Therefore, we will have a PARTY in celebration of the third birthday (uh, death day?) of the Barrow-Downs forums and all members are invited!!!!!

This year’s party will include the presentation of the first Barrow-Downs Awards, known far and wide as the Downies. The celebration will begin with a red carpet entrance before guests enter the Grand Hall where the ceremonies will take place. Come in costume and in character assuming the proper flourishes and airs of the Barrow-Downs elite and don’t forget to strike a pose before the paparazzi; this may be your 15 minutes of fame. But remember, there may never again be so many Administrators, Moderators and Assistants assembled in one place at the same time again, so while the party will be fun and funny, don’t forget to maintain some slight sense of decorum.

PLACE: The Grand Hall of Minas Anor (the Gondor RPG forum in a thread to be opened there).

TIME: Thursday, May 1, 2003 beginning at 9:00am EDT until????

DRESS: Formal Middle Earth Wear.

There will be an open bar, and meals will served by our polite wait staff.

COME CELEBRATE THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE BARROW-WIGHT AND THE BARROW-DOWNS!

RSVP

Eressië Ailin 04-22-2003 07:16 PM

Happy birthday to the Downs (almost)!!! I would like to come! This is gonna be great... could I invite some friends?

kittiewhirl1677 04-22-2003 07:33 PM

I want to come as well! I'm sure I can. At least, I think I can.

elven maiden Earwen 04-22-2003 08:05 PM

Yes, yes, I shall come. I wouldn't miss such a party in all the world. Happy almost deathday Downs!!

Nurumaiel 04-22-2003 08:08 PM

Mithadan,

Am I right in saying that this will be sort of an RPG and that anyone is welcome?

*remembers a thread in Elvenhome and wonders if this could be similar to that, if not the same*

Hey Mithadan, is it alright if I wear my kilt instead of some Middle-earth wear ? Of course I'll bring my bagpipes, and play some celtic tunes for you all. And just to have some Middle-earth attire, I'll wear Angrist in my sock instead of a regular dagger.

WOW! Something to drink to!!! I wouldn't like to miss the occasion!
How about the 'unripe age of one'? (almost the time I've been here) I'll drink to it too - with those who understands.

the phantom 04-22-2003 09:40 PM

9:00 Eastern on Thursday, huh? I'll be there, but it's very likely that I'll be a bit late (got a psych class, but I'll try to skip out a bit early).

Faye Took 04-22-2003 10:44 PM

Oh this sounds great! 9:00 Eastern aye? Ooo might be hard for me to catch on account I have school and all and I live in the West Coast. I'll try to make it, if not HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARROW-DOWNS!

Arien 04-23-2003 02:35 AM

Ohhh I want to come, but I will probably be late because of School ( hey who needs it? ) Well if I cant make it Happy Birthday Barrow Downs.... How long is it for?

Lyra Greenleaf 04-23-2003 02:38 AM

Am I right in thinking you'll leave it there long enough for us poor, deprived Brits to get on it? And also us poor schoolkids? Roughly how long are you thinking of leaving the thread?

Arien 04-23-2003 02:56 AM

Oh I forgot about the time difference. Yes what about the people who live in England (like me) or people who don't go by EDT?

Beruthiel 04-23-2003 03:01 AM

I mentioned something about time differences in another of these threads and Mithadan said that last time, the party lasted for a few weeks! So us none EDT peoples will still get to go

Tinuviel the Nightingale 04-23-2003 03:55 AM

Sounds like bales of fun! Will definetly make some sort of appearance. School may be a problem but that can be taken care of...

Orual 04-23-2003 01:27 PM

I'll definitely be there. Happy birthday to the Barrow-Downs!

Carlas 04-23-2003 01:49 PM

Oh Yay! This sounds like fun! I saw the second death-day party in Elvenhome, it looks like fun! But what Im looking forward to is the Downies Who gets to decide who gets one? Too many people deserve them, it might take awhile!

*Varda* 04-23-2003 01:54 PM

9am? *does the maths* 2pm...ah, I should be getting home from school soon after the party begins! Well, at least I'll have something to look forward to after my maths exam.

The big 3! Should be fun.

mark12_30 04-23-2003 02:08 PM

The last one went on quite a while-- weeks?-- and spawned a few RPGs of its own (The Lonely Star being one of them!). So if you can't be there right as the doors open I wouldn't stress.

Gandalf_theGrey 04-23-2003 03:40 PM

As it chances, the Barrow Downs Birthday Party is scheduled for precisely the right time! The Castle Maladil RPG that I was in charge of in Gondor being freshly ended, that tale will soon take its place in the fabled archives of Elvenhome. Meanwhile, I see the Party as a great place to meet new adventurers who might be interested in participating in any RPGs that I create in the future.

So of course I'll be there ... fireworks and all.

Looking forward to the Barrow Downs festivities ...
while fondly looking backward to a certain virtual July picnic in Hobbiton ...
along with even more nostalgic memories of real in-person "ME2" get-togethers of the members of the Middle Earth computer bbs in days of old (also known as the late 1980's),

Gandalf the Grey

InklingElf 04-23-2003 03:44 PM

I give my utmost, and sincere birthday wishes to the Downs :bows: Unfortunately, I'll have to celebrate on my own [or with a few BD people online]. I hope you all have a great time!

Lady Alasse 04-23-2003 06:50 PM

sounds interesting. I've never RPGed before though... is that alright. I might not be very good at it.

Sure, I'll be there!

Frodo Baggins 04-28-2003 06:32 AM

Well now....I was wondering if we'd be having another.

*Removes last year's velvet, silk and linen party regalia out of mothballs and tissue paper to air out.*

If I haven't gained any weight, and since this has been packed for an entire year (I haven't worn it since) I'll be wearing this. This year I'll be bringing a few friends.

The Grand Hall of Minas Anor? I must commend you on variety. Last year it was at Cormallen.

Lets see, 9am. Well, I'll probably arrive about an hour or two after that but we will get there as soon as our feet (or whatever transpertation we use) can carry us.

Damn and I wondered why nobody talked about the birthday. I didn't see this thread Is the RPG still running?

Child of the 7th Age 06-17-2003 07:27 AM

It is nestled in mothballs in Elvenhome where you can still see it if you want.
