Hey Waenfalathiel,

maybe you can put the piece of Elvish you want to be translated in here and someone might be able to help you with it.

greetings,
lathspell

Scott 03-12-2003 04:46 PM

If you would like, you can either email me or send me a personal message with any translation questions you might have. I don't claim to be an expert, but I'm pretty well-versed.

Waenfalathiel 03-13-2003 01:54 PM

thanks you guys
i would like to have this translated into elvish, "the greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return"
Thx

LadyMeg 03-14-2003 01:40 AM

Suilad,

"the greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return"

But it would have to be translated this way in Sindarin;

" The greatest thing to be learned will be to love and be loved always."
(There is no word for Return in Sindarin but maybe you could add (all ways) pān rado ".

" i beleg bach na- istui innas no an meleth a no milui pān rado ".

Hopefully someone else will have a go.

Waenfalathiel 03-15-2003 05:18 PM

Luinfang, feel free to ask any questions here.

thx for the translation LadyMeg.

i was wondering if someone could translate it in to Quenya?

LadyMeg 03-15-2003 06:52 PM

Suilad Waenfalathiel,

"The greatest thing to be learned to love and be loved in return."

Here is the quote you wanted in Quenya.

si uuvea nat an na istima an melme ar na nilda mi entulesse

Your Quote in Sindarin;

"The greatest thing to be learned to love and be loved."

i beleg bach an no istui an meleth a no milui

That way it's easier to compare the two.

There was one really good site for Elvish and Tolkien's many other languages. It was Arma-something. I really can't remember the name. Can someone PLEASE post a link?

elven maiden Earwen 03-16-2003 06:27 PM

okay thanks and how do you say have in Quenya

LadyMeg 03-16-2003 06:54 PM

Suilad elven maiden Earwen,

You would have to find another word instead of 'Hope" because there is no word for hope in Quenya.

Think about another word or phrase.

elven maiden Earwen 03-16-2003 07:13 PM

okay but what languge is estel in

LadyMeg 03-16-2003 09:17 PM

Suilad elven maiden Earwen,

estel is Sindarin this is what it means;
a noun. hope, trust, a temper of mind, steady fixed in purpose, and difficult to dissuade and unlikely to fall into despair or abandon its purpose.

have hope, farewell
garo estel, navaer

elven maiden Earwen 03-16-2003 09:19 PM

okay sorry i was kinda confused

Scott 03-16-2003 09:32 PM

On the ardalambion site the wordlist shows estel as being used in both Quenyan and Sindarin.

So,
"Haryalye estel, Namarie."
would be the translation... I think.
(without the accents... my MS Word version is too old )

Suilad Luinfang,

Sorry this has taken so long!
Here is what your Name means in Quenya;

Luinil - Neptune (planet)Star(Blue Spark?)
Fang - Beard

Neptunes Beard
Blue Star Beard

Waenfalathiel 03-17-2003 01:43 PM

thx for the translations.
could some one tell me what my name means?

LadyMeg 03-17-2003 06:16 PM

Suilad Waenfalathiel,

This is all I could come up with for your name, it is in Quenya.

falath -coast, beach, shore, coast-dwelling.
iel - is usually an ending of a Word meaning Female.

Scott 03-17-2003 10:24 PM

Waen could be taken from the word "wa" meaning wind. So the name could be Windy Beach/Shore.

Waenfalathiel 03-20-2003 04:32 PM

thx LadyMeg and Scott
