What is it?
On another thread here, where the Name/Race/Whatever generator was being used, I put several things in just for fun, and got some interesting answers. Trouble is, I don't know WHAT these things are that the generator said my entries were! Can someone tell me?

Isn't a "Meara" a very special and powerful type of horse? Shadowfax was a meara, wasn't he?...correct me if I'm wrong...
But that's all I got, sorry. |
Mumak- an Oliphaunt
Meara- I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure It's a horse of the same breed as Shadowfax. Haradrim- someone from Harad Bounder- Someone who protects the borders of the shire? maybe? |
Thank you, all of those sound feasable to me...

Samwise,
Mumaks: War Oliphaunts of the Southrons - men of the South who served Sauron in the War of the Ring (I think that this would include the Haradrim - see below) Meara: I don't know exactly, but they are some kind of wonder horse, and Shadowfax was one (as was Champion ). Olog-Hai: Uber-trolls bred for war (as Uruk-Hai were uber-orcs). I think they were at the battle before the Black Gate. There is a great article on whether they were subject to the same "turn-to-stone-in-sunlight" rule as your common or garden troll in the Articles section of this site. Bounder: A sort of ad hoc militia in the Shire employed to "beat the bound", ie patrol the borders. Haradim: The men of Harad (and Far Harad?) to the South, who served Sauron in the War of the Ring. Hope that helps. |
Bounders were hobbits whose job it was to patrol the boundaries of the Shire.
The Olog-hai were bred in Mordor by Sauron, they were an attempt to create immensely strong creatures that were intelligent enough to be used as troops. Ordinary Trolls were unsuitable - strong but stupid - and so, according to rumour, they were interbred with the variags, a cruel mannish race. The result were the Olog-hai of Mordor; cunnig and immune to the effects of sunlight and smaller than other Trolls, they were sometimes mistaken for huge orcs by enemy soldiers. Wow! Thank you, all. Hm. One of the name generator things said I was a scholarly
Meara. So, then, a horse of Shadowfax's caliber that read or studied? [ January 16, 2003: Message edited by: Samwise ] |
