Do any newcomers need a questio answered?

i am a master elf bowmen but right now i have chosen to help those who have less knowledge than i, so fire away.

You may have noticed there are threads and threads of questions, though they have all been answered already. Are you a master of all things Middle-earth? Or is there a special area where you are more reliable? If you are going to offer your services so graciously, we want to be sure to get the most out of you that we can!

Welcome to the Downs! Have fun with the questions....

Rimbaud 07-15-2002 12:58 PM

What is the average wing speed of a fully laden swallow?

piosenniel 07-15-2002 01:32 PM

Do balrogs have wings? And if so, can they fly?

& BTW - Welcome to the Downs!

OK OK! Its started already. Let's resist our urge to ask our new friend Monty Python questions. And lets spare the Downs another round of Balrog Wings (and a pitcher of beer!). Instead, lets ask him a Middle-earth question as yet unheard of. Something fresh and new.... or something old and long buried....

How many years would it take for an elf to master archery and how long would it take for an elf to ride a horse. Or is that more instinct than learning. (did I word correctly? Oh well)

And welcome to the Downs!!! Enjoy your stay here And post often!

Rimbaud 07-15-2002 02:10 PM

What constitutes a whip of flame?

piosenniel 07-15-2002 02:18 PM

I withdraw the balrog wings, but the beer has already been poured!

So, ElvenArcher61, why do you think that some of the elves did not return to the Blessed Lands of the the West when called. And do you think their reasons for refusing the Call were valid?

Elwing's brothers: Elves or Men?

--Belin Ibaimendi

piosenniel 07-15-2002 03:08 PM

Yes, do tell us about Elwing's brothers - they are dear to my heart!

mystra 07-15-2002 03:31 PM

explain the difference between the maiar and the valar.

oh, and balrogs do have wings. it is not a real discussion cos the answer is obvious- YES!

just thought i'd throw that in....

Mae Govannen, ElvenArcher61. I'm ElvenRedhead1. Welcome to the Downs.

ElvenArcher61 07-16-2002 08:52 PM

Yes the balrogs have wings but no they cant fly, it takes a elf 5-10 years for a truly skilled elf, but for an average elf, 10-20. normally elves dont ride horses unless the occasion calls for it, such as a battle, or wanting to make a speedious trip somewhere.

Nevfeniel 07-16-2002 08:57 PM

Okay, superimportant question:
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Nah, I'm just kidding. Welcome to the Barrow Downs.

ElvenArcher61 07-16-2002 09:02 PM

the difference between the valar and the maiar is that the maiar served the valar and were not immortal, however, they did have a much longer lifespan than any creatures in Middle-Earth in the 3rd age.elwing's brothers were men. and i said before that the elves dont normally ride horses, thats because they prefer to keep Illuvatar's creations free. but when they do ride a horse, it comes very natural to them because they are in-tune with all things in Middle-Earth but there enemies.

Wrong answer, what book did you read that the Maia were mortal in?

Gayahithwen 07-17-2002 02:05 AM

those little photos and screens under your nicks/names next to the post... how do you get them? is this stupid question:}?

Gimli Son Of Gloin 07-17-2002 09:34 AM

Monty, I'm serious, I'm not joking around like everyone else. What was the name of my(Gimli's) mother?

Rimbaud 07-17-2002 09:38 AM

The Maiar were Ainur, Elven. Thus, immortal. Sentence fragments rule.

The Barrow-Wight 07-17-2002 09:43 AM

Answer Stephano's question about the whip of flame!

Brinniel 07-17-2002 12:20 PM

Alkithilien, I can help you with that question. I answered this question before, so here's a link to it: Help me with my pics

Yeah, I got that. I've heard a different answer, though. (In seventh grade, my science teacher put that as one of the questions! Weird.)

Alkanoonion 07-19-2002 06:25 AM

Hamann 07-19-2002 06:37 AM

Help! Help! I want to change my publicly display name. How do I do it?!

Nevfeniel 07-19-2002 06:40 AM

Sorry, you can't. If people could change their names, it would be too confusing for other people. You could make another account, though.

piosenniel 07-19-2002 10:01 AM
