You know what would be nice? If you submitted your fan fiction to our FAN FICTION section. We have a pretty large one with some excellent stories.

Enkanowen 02-04-2002 03:28 PM

The Barrow-Wight 02-04-2002 04:18 PM

Have you guys read 'Dude Where's my Ring'? It's hilarious. And it's the most idiotic story you could imagine. But it's great! I love the part where Ganalf finds Sam spying. Exept in this story half the Shire is hiding in Bag End. Read this story and tell me what you thought.

ArwenBaggins 02-04-2002 08:06 PM

where can u get 'Dude,Where's My Ring'?
(iz it on the net,or at the stores, etc.?)

Thankz alot, Rosecotton!

For the most part, I despise fanfiction. When things like "slash", "yaoi" and incest start being described as "cute", it ruffles one too many feathers. And I firmly believe that if you have the time and talent to write something out, you should create something of your own.

There are, however, a few exceptions. A good parody I like! Like this one ! ('S about time someone taught that horrid Mary Sue a lesson!) And I was floored by this

Go to the fanfiction section at TheOneRing.net; they have loads of good stuff!

All the fanfic on this site is good, click on the fanfic link in the Barrow Wight's post to get to it.

Rose Cotton 02-05-2002 04:04 PM

'Dude Where's My Ring' is in this site's fanfic section.
to Rosa- Some people have trouble coming up with ideas. And besides if somthing ispires someone to write obout it there should be nothing wrong with it.

Aralaithiel 02-05-2002 07:15 PM

I am still waiting for mine to be published on this site!!! Hopefully soon!!

The Barrow-Wight 02-05-2002 07:38 PM

Just so everyone knows, fan fictions take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks to get posted on the Downs. We have quite a backlog of stories to be published.

Aralaithiel 02-05-2002 08:02 PM

Thank you kindly, Barrow Wight! I appreciate the info, and I shall not pester you with my impatience any longer!

True, true. And I am guilty of being inspired by Mr. Tolkien's wonderful work. Rosa herself (as Rosa Unhill of Meetingway) is having a story built up around her. Although she's not a hobbit this time. Tolkien gave me an idea for a short statured race of my own: the ligisi. They don't have furry feet, though. They're just unwanted little people who have decided that dealing with big folk is too much trouble.

Rose Cotton 02-07-2002 08:15 PM

Ha see, Good for you.(to Rosa)

Birdland 02-08-2002 08:41 AM

I don't know if this would be considered "fan fiction" in the strict sense, but for parody nothing beats SciFi.com's "Edward the Less" (which is not based in any way on Tolkien's work. No really, it isn't. )

The "Bus Riders" still crack me up!

Thingol 02-08-2002 06:00 PM

Islidur This is the best fan fic I've ever read, its a wonderful novel length story bout the 2nd age. The story is extremely accurate to Tolkien's works. You should write what you like, the idea might not be original, but Tolkien left alot of room in his writings for the imagination. It is nice to read how some people imagined the different ages of Middle Earth.

Aralaithiel 02-08-2002 09:10 PM

I am in agreement with you Thingol. I am "bending" the accuracy a bit on Tolkien's work with my fan fiction. In my version, towards the later chapters, the Elves do not immediately depart for the West. Rather, they enjoy the peace and aid the men for a thousand years or so, THEN go to the West. I am working on the next chapter after the intro now. But, I do write down ideas as they come to me, even at weird hours and places. I always have a notebook with me to record such musings.
