elvish tears
Well, I have a question. Do elves cry? I'm writing a fan fic and I would like to know exactly how emotional the fair folk gets. If this had already been talked about I didn't know (on other forums if you bring something up that had previously been mulled over, you were subsequently yelled at for being a newbie, and your questions were not answered.) The reason I ask is I have read a lot of fan fic where they had cried and in others explainind they would if they were able. So is there any evidence in the books as to whether they do or not? Any replies would be great thanx

Yes, I believe that Elves do cry. Quite a bit actually. For example, Miriel saying she 'would weep' but she was too weak. And of course all of those laments and mournings after the fallings of various Elf-kingdoms, people and the two trees.

Very good studying Inderjit!
Yes elves do cry. In the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, which means Tears Unnumbered( the 5th battle of the wars of Beleriand), many elves died and wept for their dead. I love Elves I hope this helps -(~<~> Yavanna |

Just remember that the Elves experience the deepest sorrow and the greatest joy. That is how I remember something like that. (I may have the wording incorrect, though)

Well considering the fact that elves experience the deepest sorrow of Middle-Earth, yes they do cry.
If they didn't cry, how would they let all that sadness out of them??? |
could you imagine arwen staying immortal and watching Aragorn dieing..without crying? thankfully she doesn't stay immortal

Voronwe also cries when he hears Turgon say that he wouldn't budge from Gondolin.

of course Elves cry. Although i have only read the LotR and the Silmarillion, i can recall several times when it was written "and he/she wept." Crying is part of the definition of sadness
