strange lights in the sky

My first post but it's probably been asked before. What was the only given name of the southern inland sea formed by the 'fall' of Ormal?

Lindolirian 02-17-2002 09:04 PM

The Inland Sea of Ringol. Illiun made Helcar

Mat_Heathertoes 02-17-2002 09:06 PM

Correctamnundo - your turn ..

Lindolirian 02-18-2002 03:32 PM

Ummmm..... Your topic is "strange lights in the sky"....... does the trivia hafta be about the Lights of the Valar?

YES! Of course it does ... such a fascinating subject isn't it ?

No, just kidding .. you go with whatever takes you ..... as long as its about "the names of all the stars, and of all living things, and the whole history of Middle-Earth and Over-heaven and of the Sundering Seas" - what less?

Lindolirian 02-18-2002 06:27 PM

Ok i read the first line of your reply and almost felt myself go pale! Alright here goes:
What is the name of the son of Bard the Bowman?

Lindolirian 02-18-2002 06:51 PM

Hint: the father of Brand

Mat_Heathertoes 02-18-2002 07:12 PM

my apologies for the tardy reply ... Bain was the in-between king of Dale

Lindolirian 02-18-2002 07:17 PM

Yes it was Bain and don't worry about the reply. I was toiling over your question about the land of fragrant trees and was about to post when i found that Bruce had beat me to it... oh well

Mat_Heathertoes 02-18-2002 07:29 PM

Yup, he's obviously related to Rumil of Tirion in some fashion. One more - burial mounds aside .. what was the only 'man-made' hill in Beleriand ?

Lindolirian 02-18-2002 07:32 PM

The threefold peaks ofThangorodrim were piled by Morgoth from the refuse of the tunellings of Angband. But he's not a man. If thats not right is the hill possibly elf made or is it truly man made?

Mat_Heathertoes 02-18-2002 07:49 PM

The feature in question is actually in Beleriand-proper .. not those areas that tend to get associated with Beleriand ie,

Hithlum
Dorthonion
Ard-Galen/Anfauglith
Lothlann
Ered Engrin & Thangorodrim

Hope this narrows it down a bit!

PS - It's elf-made!

Lindolirian 02-18-2002 07:55 PM

Okay then, i'm not too sure if thiss wil count either: Haudh-en-Ellath or Amon Obel

Orald 02-19-2002 12:41 AM

Amon Ethir, constructed by Felagund.

Mat_Heathertoes 02-19-2002 07:54 AM

Spot on .. now it's your turn ..

Orald 02-19-2002 10:34 PM

Asked this one almost a year ago, let's see if anyone remembers. What was the Brightest star in the skies of ME.

hint: It isn't Earendil and the Silmaril.

Joy 02-20-2002 12:03 AM

Is it Borgil? I was thinking that Menelvagor is equal to Orion. So the brightest star and the red star of Orion is Beetlegues(sp?).

Eowyn of Ithilien 02-20-2002 02:25 AM

the Sun?

Telchar 02-20-2002 02:54 AM

I don't know that much about stars but I would say HELLUIN which is that same as Sirius?

Orald 02-20-2002 11:22 AM

Telchar get's it! Your move my good man.

Telchar 02-21-2002 02:01 AM

The Star of Eärendel is equivelent to ________ of our world?

Watcher in the Water 02-21-2002 02:15 AM

Venus? Just a long shot...

Telchar 02-21-2002 05:05 AM

Actually Im not 100% sure - but it was what I had in mind - it's logic that The Eveningstar and Venus is one and the same... Go on WiW
