Animals and Characters
 

How about a game where you name an animal in LotR, (or anything else by Tolkien, I guess) and everyone has to say which character was compared to that animal - I hope that makes sense!

I'll start with an easy one

A Dog

ok. I'll Samewise. He always folows his 'master'. [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]

tolkien did say that - but there was one other compared to a dog

I think it might be Wormtongue as he follows Saruman around.

Well, I don't know who goes next, but the correct answers were Sam (see the end of "Shadow of the Past") and Gollum (after frodo reprimands him)

I guess Arwen_princess_of_Rivendell is next

Scatha. He was described as "Scatha the Worm".

I was thinking of Grima, as I didn't really think that Worm as an alternate term for Dragon was the same as worm the animal [img]smilies/tongue.gif[/img]. Carry on Horse Maiden.

This isn't really a character comparison, but something was said to be like "a hive of ants".

When Gandalf was telling his tale at the council of Elrond he compared Buckland to "a hive of ants that had been stirred up with a stick" when he went there looking for Frodo after his escape from Isengard.

It's Bilbo in "The Hobbit" - the trolls tell him he sort of resembles a scared rabbit, or something like that (judging by his hairy feet). I always found this funny! [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

Not just any dogs. Hounds. And note the plural.

This refers to Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas in pursuit of the orcs that took Merry and Pippin.

T'is may well be, but I didn't have them in mind. Keep searching.
HINT: There's an exact quote where a character likens himself and the others to hounds - it's from FOTR.

Sam, Merry, and Pippin, in telling Frodo how they shall follow him if he doesn't let them go with him.

And that sentences has too many pronouns, me thinks.
