Sam to himself?

[i] The Sun has left his blackness, & has found a fresher morning / And the fair Moon rejoices in the clear & cloudless night / For Empire is no more, and now the Lion & Wolf shall cease.

Manwe 12-06-2001 05:42 AM

Merry to Pippin (or Pippin to Merry) in Fangorn. They have lembas and the ent-water.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-09-2001 02:20 AM

Sam to Frodo in Ithilien...?

Lostgaeriel 12-09-2001 02:37 AM

Frodo said this to Gollum as he offered to share some lembas with him. This was as they rested before walking through the Dead Marshes.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-09-2001 03:38 AM

*flipflipflipflipflip* Oh, right on! Hey, he's got it!
-Maril

Lostgaeriel 12-09-2001 04:13 AM

Hey Marileangorifurnimaluim!

I'm NOT a "he". I'm a "she".

Here's the language lesson for today! "Lostgaeriel" is a feminine form of the root name "Lostgaer" which means Empty Sea according to one of the experts on this site. (Ends with "iel" as do "Galadriel" and "Undómiel".) Other feminine forms are "Lostgaerien" and "Lostgaerwen". The masculine form is "Lostgaerion".

Not to worry, I have the same problem with my real-life name too.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-09-2001 04:17 AM

*cringing apologetically* ..and on top of it all, you actually managed to spell my name. Not an ME linguist despite the whimsical name (Tibetan, anyone? Deutsch vielicht?) interesting lesson there, hmmm, time to break my addiction to the Forum and check out the language tables.

I said "he" because the guys tend to pick the sword motif. *inner debate over Freud wisecrack - Nah*

Not bad, Lostgaeriel, you nailed two old quizzes in one night.

Lostgaeriel 12-09-2001 04:31 AM

Oh! The sword motif. It seems to be the default. I don't always remember to choose something appropriate - usually to the topic or the mood of the post.

Yeah, 2 quizzes answered tonite 'cause I've got insomnia.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-09-2001 04:37 AM

Yeah, me too (probably explained by the bag of chocolates next to me). While you're answering impossible quotes, check out "Recent Laziness... continued." A hint: it's not an elf.

Hey, this is fun, practically live.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-10-2001 11:13 PM

Hoom, hmm, Lostgaeriel, don't forget another quote!

Lostgaeriel 12-11-2001 12:47 AM

Well, I don't know if I should proceed without HerenIstarion's OK, but here goes...

On foot?

Turambar 12-11-2001 09:53 AM

Wild guess - Samwise, about the trip to Bucklebury?

Lostgaeriel 12-11-2001 05:00 PM

No. It wasn't Sam. Do you want a hint?

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-11-2001 08:20 PM

Gimli, after their borrowed horses had run off and he learned they'd have to walk to Meudusld. I think Legolas' next comment was "we'll make a rider of you yet!" and Gimli said "it seems I won't have the chance."

Lostgaeriel 12-12-2001 07:52 AM

No, Marileangorifurnimaluim, it wasn't Gimli. He said "Feet!". But you're VERY VERY VERY close to it.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-12-2001 02:18 PM

Eomer to Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas on hearing they were hunting orcs and came a bazillion leagues in such a short time.

Lostgaeriel 12-13-2001 12:53 AM

Yes, Maril (I can call you that, can't I?) you got it. Just needed to flip back a few pages, eh? (Did the shield message icon helped for both of your guesses?)

I think that this was the point at which Éomer's opinion of Aragorn (and Gimli and Legolas) changed from tolerance to respect and admiration. (He had already stopped being suspicious.)

Your turn.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-16-2001 09:21 PM

Of course!
Sorry this took so long - don't tend to bring my books to work when I check this, killer week, etc., etc.

Who, and when?

Lostgaeriel 12-16-2001 11:26 PM

Hey, Maril! We can't seem to get out of Rohan here, eh?

That's Merry muttering to himself, as Eowyn tells Theoden that Aragorn (& Legolas & Gimli et al) have taken the Paths of the Dead. Merry has been left behind by the Fellowship. (Gandalf & Pippin have ridden ahead to Minas Tirith, and of course Frodo & Sam have gone to, well, we won't speak of it.)

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-17-2001 03:15 PM

Too true, Rohan dominates the quiz. (I knew it was too easy, but figured I'd better not wait any longer ) Take it away, Lostgaeriel.

Well, this shouldn't be hard at all, but I like it.

I will tell you the tale of Tinúviel, in brief - for it is a long tale of which the end is not known; and there are none now, except Elrond, that remember it aright as it was told of old. It is a fair tale, though it is sad, as are all the tales of Middle-earth, and yet it may lift up your hearts.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-19-2001 06:22 PM

Oh how wonderful, I wonder if that will still be in the movie...

Aragorn to the hobbits, under the shadow of Weathertop.

Lostgaeriel 12-20-2001 01:01 AM

No and Yes! (As you know very well by now.) Your turn Marileangorifurnimaluim.

(Aragorn is such a romantic. He misses his girl and doesn't have her photo in his back pocket, so he tells the tale of Tinúviel because she reminds him of Arwen.)

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-20-2001 03:24 AM

Oh thank you, of course that's why he told the story of Tinuviel. I feel rather foolish that I either missed/forgot that over the years. But that's the wonder of the LotR, the endless layers and new treasures in each reading.
