The Downs is a hit in Boston!

The Downs has been listed as a Tolkien "mega-site" by Boston.com. Check it out here

That is SO cool! Especially since I live in Boston, so I have to visit the site all the time for many purposes. I expect the Barrow Downs will be having a LOT more people join in soon...?

Wow, that's amazing! And I was thinking me and kittie were the only ones here who even knew about the Downs...

Edit: Here in Boston, duh.

Izzy, you meant that you and I were the only ones who knew about the Downs in Boston, right? Because as you've probably told ME millions of times the Downs is known to exhist by many people...

Yo, Chelmsford is an exurb of Boston...

That's quite an accolade, Mithadan. Many deserved Kudos to the Barrow Wight, yourself, and the other Administrations for creating and maintaining this site.

That New York Times Archive is also a valuable link to have. I have been trying to find Auden's review for some time, not with any strenuous effort mind you, but nonetheless with some interest. Thanks, Mithadan.

An interesting statement about the genre which LOTR belongs to:

Quote:

For anyone who likes the genre to which it belongs, the Heroic Quest, I cannot imagine a more wonderful Christmas present. All Quests are concerned with some numinous Object, the Waters of Life, the Grail, buried treasure etc.; normally this is a good Object which it is the Hero's task to find or to rescue from the Enemy, but the Ring of Mr. Tolkien's story was made by the Enemy and is so dangerous that even the good cannot use it without being corrupted.

Thanks Mith! And you're right, B-Berry. The Times archive is a goldmine. I particularly like the 1967 Tolkien interview A Prevalence of Hobbits.

Hmmmmmm, now let's see if Lush can get us banned in Boston. Then we'll really know we've "made it".

GaladrieloftheOlden 05-28-2003 02:36 AM

I'm just wondering how they got ahold of the name of the Barrow Downs over here, cause, I swear, there's nobody who knows about it here! (Except kittie and peony and myself ). I'm just wondering how they choose which sites to post... or does it have nothing to do with the state, and this is just US wide?

Confused,
~Menelien

They probably found The Barrow-Downs listed on some search page.

I've always known that the BD is the best Tolkien site EVER, so of course we're listed. :D
