Wouldn't that have been cool if a hobbit.....

Wouldn't that have been cool if a Hobbit like Pippin or Sam ruled ALL of Middle Earth?

I vote For Pippin

Voronwen Amatiriel Cuile 06-18-2002 08:50 PM

hehehe, wow! what a concept! i'm thinking Pippin, too. then we'd get to have about 7 meals a day! muhahahahaha!!!!

Kuruharan 06-18-2002 09:27 PM

Uhhh, I don't know. Somehow I just can't see it. For one thing ruling the world would require way to much work and leave no time for second breakfast.

"World domination! Nasty unpleasant thing that makes one late for dinner!"
-Bilbo Baggins (sort of)

Kalimac 06-18-2002 09:57 PM

Have to agree with Kuruharan on this one; hobbits ruling the world would be like the Peter Principle times about ten thousand. The biggest thing against it as that fundamentally you can't see any of them really WANTING it - their scope just isn't that big - even if their ambition is greedy and limitless in Shire terms, that still would probably extend only as far as Bree. Frodo was stressed out enough being deputy mayor; can't imagine him being able to (or wanting to) rule over anything greater. Sam? Again, he wouldn't want it, the Shire kept him busy enough. The Sackville-Bagginses are about the most ambitious of the bunch in worldly terms, and even they kept their scope small - poor Lotho only got as far as indirect contact with Isengard, and lived to regret it. Merry? Too busy journeying around, adventuring and making a figure of himself in his fantastic new armor . Pippin? As much as I love him, I would not want the guy who dropped the stone in the well of Moria - and looked into the Palantir just to see what would happen - controlling large parts of Earth. And he probably wouldn't either.

It just isn't what they're made for, and a ruling hobbit would probably be the most miserable creature in the world, who would wish it on them? Best to leave it to someone sonorous and reliable like Aragorn or Elrond .

Evenstar1 06-18-2002 10:21 PM

Hmmm. Pippen in charge of Middle Earth. I wonder how that would change him? Well, we know one thing for sure: the Barrow Downs would be overflowing with MUSHROOMS!

Rose Cotton 06-18-2002 10:23 PM

I'd like to have Sam as a ruler but as you said he is contented with his job as major. Actually at the Cracks of Doom Frodo considered domination. At least that's what I think. Though that was probably the ring and not Frodo.

Legolas 06-18-2002 10:26 PM

Seriously, probably not.

The Silver-shod Muse 06-18-2002 11:32 PM

There's a huge difference between being a reliable person and being a competent leader. Somehow I think that leadership just doesn't play a big part in hobbit character and/or ability.

Mornie Alantie 06-19-2002 09:57 AM

There is a 1,ooo,ooo,ooo,ooo,ooo,ooo chance that a hobbit would rule ME. So I posted this topic to see what you think if they did and who you would want. I want Pippin, although people would definitely be a lot fatter

MallornLeaf 06-19-2002 11:54 AM

<color=blue>If a hobbit ruled the world, then we'd be in big trouble. did we forget, mornie, that hobbits enjoy pleasure and drinking while the world would not go on if we did not have SOME commerce... really... what were u thinking? </color>

Ms. Took 06-19-2002 11:26 PM

I vote for Pippin too. He probably wouldn't stay in power for very long, but it would be fun while it lasted.

Veritas 06-20-2002 01:33 AM

I think that it would be a DANGER if a hobbit ruled ME, especially Pipin, he only thinks about food. Aragorn would be a much better king, he thinks about things before he is doing something.

But if we had to choose between Pipin and Sam, I would choose Sam.

Yes, in terms with ME's danger and safety so that it will be peaceful...i would choose Sam.
But if for only the sake for FUN, I would definitely choose Pippin.
If Pippin ruled ME, he would only be King for a day.

Amarantha Gamwich-Baggins 06-21-2002 02:11 AM

ahh yes, hobbits: the superior race.

Neferchoirwen 07-04-2002 09:05 AM

I have to agree with Kalimac.
I think that the Hobbits shining moment was to have the ring in one of the hands of their kin. That does not necessarily make them leader-worthy in terms of being a competent leader. Putting in the limelight if Middle Earth History earns them a spot in its chronicles.

A Hobbit that rules would damage their culture.

Birdland 07-04-2002 10:44 AM

Birdie steps up to the plate for Hobbits: OK, so maybe Hobbits wouldn't desire to rule Middle Earth, but look at what a great job they did with the Shire:

A postal system second to none.

Free education, (for however long anyone wanted it.)

Great road system.

Possibility that they had indoor plumbing.

A helpful and friendly police force.

A fair and equitible system of laws.

Thriving import/export businesses.

Eco-friendly argricultural techniques.

OK, so maybe they might not have been up to the task of taking on the Dark Lord single-handedly, but when it comes to the day-to-day working of govenment, I think that a little "hobbit-sense" was just what some of these kingdoms in Middle-Earth needed.

Samwise 07-04-2002 12:59 PM

Say on, Birdie!

"But Mr. Frodo, he knows he's got to find the Cracks of Doom, if he can. But he's afraid. Now it's come to the point, he's just plain terrified. That's what his trouble is. Of course, he's had a bit of schooling, so to speak--we all have--since we left home, or he'd be so terrified he'd just fling the Ring into the River and bolt. But he's still too frightened to start. And he isn't worrying about us, either: wether we'll go along with him or no. He knows we mean to. That's another thing that's bothering him. If he screws himself up to go, he'll want to go alone. Mark my words! We're going to have trouble when he comes back. For he'll screw himself up all right, sure as his name's Baggins. "

If Hobbits ruled the world I bet everyone would have something to eat.

Samwise 07-04-2002 10:37 PM

6 meals a day...we'd all be pretty chubby, but if we all were, I guess we wouldn't care, would we?

Rosa_Baggins 07-05-2002 02:05 AM

Hobbit have 6 meals a day but they also do alot of exercise to keep in shape if you know what i mean. They would have to because otherwise they'll get to fat to walk though their doors!

Rosa_Baggins 07-05-2002 02:07 AM

I vote Merry!!

Cimmerian 07-05-2002 07:38 AM

There.... chubby is the word. Six meals a day will make anyone chubby, especially girl hobbits, Rosa.
It's a scientific fact that women hold more fat than men.

Er... A hobbit couldn't rule a staight line, let alone the....

Rosa_Baggins 07-05-2002 07:56 AM

*Glares at Cim*I am not CHUBBY!!!Grrrrrrr!!

akhtene 07-06-2002 04:28 PM

If a hobbit was rulling the world from his (or her) cosy garden, there would definitely be less fuss and more minding everyone's own business

The Archer 07-20-2002 10:11 AM

Haha. It wouldn't have been cool, it would have been comical. Much better would be to see Middle-Earth ruled by Legolas and Gimli.

MYyyPreciousSS 07-24-2002 01:03 PM

Hmm...a hobbit ruling all of Middle-Earth, interesting... Not sure if that would be the best idea, but still, I'd vote for Merry!

Lindolirian 07-24-2002 04:24 PM

We'd all die of the absense of starvation, death, sadnees, and all basically bad things. It be way too happy of a world. Wait!! who am I kiddin???

but alas, I shall never truthfully be able to say the greatest thing in the world:

the guy who be short 05-26-2003 10:05 AM

ARE YOU KIDDING? THINK ABOUT HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST!

first of all, new scales would have to be made. those pathetic pre-pippin ones only go up to 21 stones.
all doors would have to be widened, as would all archs, cars, lanes... everything! itll cost so much
and, of course, dumbells would all be melted as people would just give up on bodybuilding, or even trying to stay fit
so, its a nice prospect, but itd cost waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much

Meela 05-26-2003 10:23 AM

I vote for Sam to rule.

I know this isn't hobbitish, but I'd love to see Bill Ferny in charge.

And of course Denethor and I would rule side by side...

Alatariel Telemnar 05-26-2003 02:52 PM

I'd vote for Pip.
