The Entwives

What happened to the Entwives?

Kuruharan 07-12-2002 06:20 PM

They vanished!

One of the more respectable theories is that they were somehow destroyed during the War of the Last Alliance. However, that is just a theory. All that is known is that they vanished.

Birdland 07-12-2002 06:43 PM

I don't know. I still go with the theory that the "walking tree" that Sam's cousin Hal saw on the North Moors was an Ent-Wife.

Of course, I'm a hopeless romantic who loves a happy ending.

Ent-Wives Live!

burrahobbit 07-12-2002 07:09 PM

They were all killed by Sauron. The Brown Lands didn't used to be brown.

The Barrow-Wight 07-12-2002 08:09 PM

Perhaps a a few escaped the ravages of war...

Lindolirian 07-12-2002 08:28 PM

I've always wanted to write a fanfiction on it, but, I've never had the time. Go ahead, anybody, steal my idea, I'll enjoy reading it.

Birdland 07-12-2002 10:04 PM

No, No. They are still alive in the Shire, happily frolicking in the North Farthing, stomping Burrahobbits where ever they can find 'em.

It's what they live for.

Raefindel 07-12-2002 11:47 PM

Yes, I always went with Birdland's view, as well.

Gimli Son Of Gloin 07-13-2002 12:26 AM

I think I will write a fan fiction on what happened to thew Entwives...
Yes. Probably. Possibly. Maybe. Doubtful. Hardly. No.

Guess not!

akhtene 07-13-2002 03:31 PM

As I know, Ent-wives moved searching peace and a good place for their gardens. However such things have become rare in any world, so they may have walked quite far away.

Kuruharan 07-13-2002 06:00 PM

*Sigh* So many wishful thinkers...

Airedae 07-13-2002 09:35 PM

I would really like to know what happened to them. That was really the most upsetting thing to me in the books. The whole Ent and Entwife thing was incredibly sad.

How about something like , After Sam used his magic soil partcles to replinish the Shire from Sharky's destruction, the horticultural Eden that errupted was so lush and beautiful, that ancient creatures known as Entlas began visiting the Gamgee Gardens at twilight time, to trade plant lore and marvel at the Mallorn tree. Gimli Son Of Gloin 07-13-2002 10:13 PM

Maybe they all died.

Orofacion of the Vanyar 07-13-2002 11:03 PM

This is slightly off topic but wanted to share what I recently "discovered". We know one name of an Entwife, Fimbrethil. There was a small forest area in southern Beleriand called Nimbrethil, if you look on your Beleriand maps it should be on there, right above the Bay of Balar I believe. The silmallarities in the name is too coincidental, in my opinion. Perhaps this was another Entwife.

Scapegoat 07-13-2002 11:32 PM

Some have speculated that Sauron captured the Entwives and he used them to create the new race of trolls, the Olog-hai.

Raefindel 07-14-2002 12:11 AM

Liriodendron, I love it!

*Varda* 07-14-2002 08:08 AM

<font color=white> I like Orafacion's idea. It seems to make a lot of sense

Nimbrethil - Fimbrethil
And it's a forest

The only sad thing about it is that when Beleriand sank the Entwives would have gone too - but perhaps a few made it to Eriador and the shire. We can always hope.

Thanks Rae! Care to add to it? When the kids go back to school, maybe I'll draw an Entwife, (before the movie comes out so it doesn't affect my imaginary pix!)
