Middle Earth Rock Concert
Imagine a music concert in Middle Earth. What kind of (our) music would there be? I mean, I really sold-out-gotta-go-there concert. What would it be for the different races?
|
For elves - Celtic/pretty music.
For orcs - "Hitting the Snaga with a Mace" For dwarves - Rock and roll. (pun intended) For hobbits - "Hitting spoons and knives against glasses of water" |
I'm gonna take guesses, but I'll just say Nickelback for all Even though it kinda wouldn't go with some..
Orcs- basically anything heavy metal. Blind Guardian, Ozzy Osbourne, Slipknot, Drowning Pool, etc. Elves- I'd have to go with the Celtic music too, Enya, uh....and some other stuff... Hobbits- Toad the Wet Sprocket, and some other classic rock stuff Dwarves- Classic rock also, like Aerosmith, the Doors, some other stuff I'm not familiar with.. |

Metallica's not as heavy as Slipknot. But Meshuga is! I like them, how could I have forgotten them!?
|
Meshuga is my brother's favorite band. He plays electric guitar (very well, I might add) http://www.westwoodi.net/~smilies/co...ector/rock.gif and he can sorta keep up. Their music is crazy, and that's the way he likes it.

Barenaked Ladies!? *shudder* Well, just because I don't like them, doesn't mean that a hobbit won't But please, no one say Linkin Park! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

Oh, and how about Our Lady Peace for the hobbitses. |
I have to say it now--"Linkin Park". Boo ha ha ha.
For the Dwarves--one of my friends was once playing this cd that was recorded completely with percussion instruments. I dunno, for some reason I think that'd work And I completely agree on Barenaked Ladies for the Hobbits. But only if I was invited to the concert. (I love BNL. ) Edited because I couldn't spell to save my life. [ July 20, 2002: Message edited by: Kaze ] |
I'd say incubus for the elves they are very foaty but hard when the need is called for- just like the elves. Blink 182 (though they no longer exist)for hobbits 311 for men something winy and loud for orcs. And dwarves hmmmmmmmm *shrugs* I dunno.
|
For elves - clasicle music
For orcs - heavy heavy metal, stomp For dwarves - Rock and roll For hobbits - any thing with flutes and violins |
Here's what I think:
Elves: Linkin Park, Incubus, etc. Dwarves: Heavy metal Hobbits: Country Orcs: Disturbed, Drowning Pool, most of the peeps in my signature |
how about a theme song for each race?
|
Okay, lemme see...
Elves: Blink 182- Adam's Song Dwarves: Mettalica- (dunno what it's called, but here's what I think) Wherever Rock May Roll (Is that right? Don't have the CD) Hobbits: System of a Down- Psycho Orcs: Linkin Park- Crawling |
hmmm, theme song...
Elves: Enya's "A day without Rain" Hobbits: Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" Dwarves: The theme to "2001:A space Odyssey" (It's a classical piece) Orcs: Something by Ozzy Osbourne Gollum: It's not easy being green. |
elf chick that song is actually very fitting (adams song) "all the small things" for the hobbits... can't think of anything else at the moment
|
hmm themes?
Orcs: nine inch nails: Quake theme Hobbits: Semi-charmed life(Third Eye Blind) or Get in Line( Bare Naked Ladies!) Dwarves: Something blue grass or with Banjo( I am not too familiar with those genres, maybe the Dueling Banjoes Elves: Apocalypitca(band who plays violas and cellos to Metallica) Nothing else matters or Sanitarium Morgoth: ACDC Back in Black ....heh Aragorn:Metallica- Hero of the day At Moria: The Door: Break on through the other side just a few... BTW: Nazgul#ten, like your sig! [ August 04, 2002: Message edited by: Eol ] |
thanks.
|
Oh, Nine Inch Nails!! I love them. Ok, how could I forget though!!!!!! I'm so dissapointed in myself. I forgot to put Nickelback!
Hobbits or dwarves: NICKELBACK!!!!! For some reason I have this song stuck in my head. And Treebeard said he wanted his tree girl back, so this is his song: Closer, by Nine Inch Nails Orc: Just For (on Curb it's Just Four. But it's only spelling...) and who's it by?! Yup, that'd be Nickelback If you know the lyrics, you might know why this applies to an orc. |
Thanks, Lady_Bain. I love that song, and they kinda never die.... Themes? I dunno about any themes.
|
Ok why does everyone say that elves listen to celtic music, they are norse influenced too..with all due respect.
|
Even so,I do love celtic music.
|
Tolkien would say that rock and roll is only for Orcs.

"Highway to Hell" for orcs and other "baddies." Hmm... And, if we want to expand to oither realms of music, I think some kind of Gregorian chant would work for the dwarves.
For some reason, I think U2's little-known instrumental "Fourth of July" would work for Sauron or Morgoth--better yet, for Gollum. |
I think the elves would listen to late medieval/early rennaisance polyphany. Motets and early chansons sound very elvish.
I don't think Gregorian chant seems very dwarvish. Unless you're thinking free and parallel organum. Other forms of the chant have a counter-tenor singing WAY high with very free rhythm. That doesn't seem very dwarvish to me. Hobbits . . . ah . . . Rennaisance madrigals. From England. Very hobbitish. And probably some Ayres. And pavannes and golliards. And Estampies! (But that's medieval, not rennaissance, and it's also French, not English ) Orcs . . . heavist, ear-splitting, skull-crushing, rock-pounding music you can get. The less melody the better! This didn't have much to do with rock'n roll, but oh well! Hey, I actually knew what I was talking about this time! |
If we were speaking of modern times:
Elves: Celtic Music or soft rock Hobbits: Pop Music Dwarves: Why do I have this image of Led Zeppelin...or a facial image of ZZ Top...heehee... Men: Rap Orcs: Lots of loud noise...not even music. Vala: New Age music...with a lot of windchimes. Istari: The Eternal Om |
Has anyone ever listened to Rammstein? German hardcore. I've never heard a band that sounds more like orcs. Seriously, even looking at the one album (the one with Du Haust and Klavier on it, don't know the title)... it looks like Saruman got mad at them. They've got like, forks and knives sticking into their heads. Freaky stuff, man. *gets scared and runs back to her Celtic music*
|
Ha,ha!
|
I'm sorry but i *do not agree* with whoever said rock and roll or that heavy stuff is for everyone! Down with that evil!!!
Okay, here's my list... Orcs:Bright Eyes...ummmm, i don't know for a theme song!! Hobbits: Five Iron Frenzy! Elves: Save Ferris!!!!!(!!!!!!) Dwarves: I have a theme song for them! Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash! Men: Play That Funky Music White Boy by Wild Cherry! [ November 14, 2002: Message edited by: Elven Mistress ] |
