Lotr Cats

Hey, my cat is gonna have her babies in a few days and I wanted to name them after Lotr or have names that have something to do with lotr. Does anybody have any sugestions on what I should name them? I allready have another cat named Arwen.

well, if one is black you could name it nazgul
well...ok...maybe not...

Ithaeliel 07-20-2002 07:56 PM

You could name them the names of the people in the Fellowship... but that's kind of unoriginal. Hey... howabout you name each one of them after one of the great Elven-kings or, for the girls, some of the famous women of Middle-earth? Or after the Valar! When I get my Westie, I'm going to name him Turgon after the Lord of Gondolin. If you want me to specifically list some names, here ya go:

Male: Feanor, Thingol, Turgon, Fingon, Fingolfin, Legolas, Glorfindel, Finrod, Turin, Tuor, Aragorn, Tulkas, Aule, Manwe, Ulmo, Olorin, Gandalf, Mithrandir, Curunir, Saruman (Curunir and Saruman only if he's evil), Boromir... etc. etc. the list goes on forever.

Female: Miriel, Luthien, Aranel, Finduilas, Haleth, Galadriel, Nienor, Melian, Yavanna, Nessa, Nienna, Uinen, Varda, Elbereth, Eowyn

NazgulNumberTen 07-20-2002 08:03 PM

or if he's really evil morgoth. and if one's white, call it gandalf!!

ElfEarz 07-20-2002 11:19 PM

wouldn't it make sense to name a grey cat Gandalf? anyways... u should name a boy Legolas and a girl Galadriel

Lady_Galadriel 07-21-2002 06:39 PM

Hey thanks for the cool names!! I can't wait till they come so i can name them!!! I am fairly sure there will be a black cat, considering my cat is black...

Greetings fellow cat-lover, Lady_Galadriel,

Or you could think about using the names of characters who aren't major or well-known, like Gollem, Smeagol, Gimli, Maggott, Gaffer, Gamgee, Sharky, Ithil (if a kitten is silver-grey), Mallorn (if one is gold/ ginger), Smaug if one is sooty, Mith if grey, Naug if it is short but feisty, Nim or Nimloth if white....

Lady_Galadriel 07-21-2002 09:46 PM

Wow, Bethberry you sure seem to have put alot of thought into this!!! Thanks for the names. But unfortuneatly, I may only be able to use 1 or two names. You see I was just informed that i get first dibs on naming, but if there is more than 1 cat i have to let my sister and brother name one. But hopefully she will have alot of kitties so I can name them after LOTR. (Im also trying to bribe my brother into letting me name his cat for him, or him naming it after someone in lotr)

Kettle of fish 07-22-2002 12:25 AM

You could always name one Tolkien, after the great master himself.

Anorien 07-22-2002 02:24 AM

What in the world? YOu ppl come up with the craziest things!!! I would name my cat either Frodo or Anorien, after me...lol...yeah, anyways. Rawk on Frodo!

Luinsewiel 07-22-2002 10:26 AM

Call one Gollum and then when you call it you can be like "heeeere my precioussssssss" hmmm.... I might do that when I get a new cat.

Lady_Galadriel 07-22-2002 10:18 PM

Luinsewiel , Lol, that is great!!!
Tolkien... hmmmm... very original... maybe i shall do that.....
i must go ponder this.....

You could name them after Hobbits. I mean, they are like Hobbits. What they do is eat, sleep, and not care about the outside world. CATS ROCK! (even though I don't have one)

Lady_Galadriel 07-23-2002 11:28 AM

Wow, now that you have brought it up... cats are just like hobbits!!!!

Nevfeniel 08-01-2002 07:47 PM

I LOVE the name Nienna. In fact, I'm planning on naming my eldest (female) child Nienna. But I also want to name a pet Nienna (a cat would seem most appropriate). It sounds so pretty, it just rolls off the tongue.
Ooh! Aragorn sounds like a tomcat name! For some reason, I can just imagine a cat following Aragorn around in Minas Tirith.

That would be funny!

*Aragorn's walking with Arwen and they see a cat. They walk away from it and it's there again. They start to walk a little quicker, with the cat plodding behind them.*

My aunt had a cat called Baggins! He died a few years ago now but he was huge and used to see off German Shepherd dogs. I think he should of been called Uruk-Hai with his temprement.

Morai 08-06-2002 12:50 PM

Aranel would be a good name for "the kitty princess" of the litter.
If I were to name a cat after LOTR, I probably name her Eowyn. (Good fighting names make good fighting cats!)
Or if I got a boy cat, I would name it Gollum (my preciousssssss) or Merry (my fave hobbit)

Niphredil Baggins 08-07-2002 07:06 AM

Hey, my brother's looking for a cat name too, and since he got movie freaked - I think I'll suggest he call the baby Galadriel, Gala for short...

Lady_Galadriel 08-13-2002 09:20 AM

Guess what! I'm happy to report that my princess is a proud new mother of five precious baby kittens!

I named two of them, and my brother and sister got to name the others.
The two black ones (they also have tiny spots of white on their noses) I named Pippin, and Gollum. (Gollum was the first born) the kittys feet just looked exactaly like gollum's.....

my brother named the grey one Legolas (though I think he may change it in a few weeks)
And my sister hasnt came up with names for the other two yet. One is black w/ tiny orange spots, and the other is all black.

They are soooo adorable!!!

randycarrot 08-13-2002 10:23 AM

I had three female cats, they all had about 10 litters each! (yes i know they were all sl*ts) theyre so cute... my fave kitten was white with blue eyes... it looked like a mouse so i called it mouse, but it died

I would call one Eowyn...

I wish we had kittens again... sigh, theyre so sweet.

I wouldn't suggest that. Imagine yourself talking to some other Tolkien fan: "oh, and when Tolkien was little, he used to tear the curtains and ruin the furniture. And he bit me twice!" - what a fiasco that would be! But you can always name him Ronald (JRRT went by his middle name)...
And if I ever get a dark girl kitten I'll name her Morwen. And if it's a white kitty, she'll be Elly, for Elbereth. Or maybe Nienna.
If it's a tom, I'd name him Faramir, Orome, or Glorfindel, depending on his colour.

Tuor in Gondolin 12-20-2010 08:24 PM

How about Beruthiel also
Ostler (mentioned in Frodo's song at the Prancing Pony, and the real cat belonging to the inn's ostler Bob and
Four-Legs (from the Riddle Game.
