Wierd coincidences
I've just been reading The History of Midle-Earth 6- return of the shadow. In the first few versions of the chapter "A Long Expected Party", Tolkien names 4 seperate hobbits Orlando, and one Vigo.
Did no-one else realise this? How weird is that? It's not like they are popular names, less when LOTR was written. I find it creepy. |

Wow. Any other coincidences? I know one, the guy who did Sean Astin's feet was called Sean Foot! It's true! |
I thought a name like Sean Bean was bad. think of the nicknames in school!
ya i knew about the Sean Foot thing, its on the extended edition eh? hmm i dont know about any other coincidences...
The one called Vigo eventualy became Pippin!
IM SO GLAD HE CHANGED HIS NAME TO PIPPIN!!!
Yeah, Vigo and Viggo could get confusing. If you think thats bad, Merry was marmaduke, sam was, well, Sam has always been sam, Frodo was Bingo Bolger-Baggins, Aragorn was Trotter and legolas was Galdor.
I had another Arwen moment earlier....I was out riding (ok, ok, the horse wasnt all white but he had lots of white on him...) when was attacked by a black one, and had a ridiculously fast chase round a field...typical....
MARMADUKE???????? Thats horrible!
I am so glad he changed Trotter to Strider...i have that book too, its awesome how much thought went into it.
Not only was Aragorn named Trotter, his real name was Peregrin!!!!! (Perry for short though, not Pippin) and he wore wooden shoes to hide his mutilated feet. Really weird. Just imagine Arwen and Trotter...
Pippin went through a lot of names though, before he became Pippin. And the first black rider was originally Gandalf. (Not as in he was evil, but as in he came around in a black cloak sniffing...heheh) That's a really weird coincidence though...if I see any, I'll put 'em here... Oh, and Sean Bean is an unfair name. If Sean was pronounced the way it should be (in other words, pronounced the way it looks, like "seen") it would rhyme. But it doesn't. Hmph. |
