Elven, Elven, Elven...what about the rest of us?

With all we hear about elven, elven, and more elves, what about the rest of the species? Have YOU seen a sight dedicated to dwarves? or orcs? okay, I admit there ARE SOME...but very few...

And once you get down to the other species, very few remember that there are some FEMALES of them....*grrr...*

I mean, whoever said Gimli was a guy?

Gimli did!! At sometime in the book anyway..
and YES there are a few sites for hobbits, but that is about it. never noticed any for wizards/dwarves/Men...

Now THAT is a disturbing thought!

Seriously, to answer that question, maybe because he is referred to as son of Gloin

I have to agree though, you see more sites about elvish, learning elvish, how wonderful this elf was or that elf...hey, maybe Samwise has come from middle earth and taken over the internet with his fascination of elves!

Not that I have anything against elves, I love em to peices, except at times they tend to be suspcious, and maybe a bit predgidous (sp?) i.e., making Gimli wear a blindfold through the forest. Guess you can see from my screen name what species I favor that is, besides Gandalf and Shadowfax. I've been looking for a good Shadowfax pic/painting to use for an avatar but they seem to be few and far between. Heh, yet put "Legolas" into the google search and you could look for days and days...oh well!

EDIT: as for not being many sites about wizards, I guess HP has taken over that realm

If you are so worried about some site, why don't you make one yourself?

Nevolosse Maehayanda 01-31-2003 07:04 PM

Actually, I've started one..hehehhe..just not enough time..*laughs*.

Gimli? A girl? Disturbing.. I do reckon that I am scarred for life. Brrr.... *shivers*

But yea, there are almost no sites about the other races. And females are SO underepresented! Arg! This needs to change.. Hmm.. *insert thoughtful frown*

There aren't many Gollum fans or sites either...though there do exist a few, and they are really cool.

Tar-Palantir 01-31-2003 08:02 PM

Well half the elf sites are probably really just "Orli" sites anyway! Blehh..

Maybe if Tolein wrote complete dwarvish and Orcish languages people would be speaking that too. Oooohh, or Entish! I would be an Ent.

Yea, I want to be an ent! That would be cool! But I would be an entwife, as I am a girl.

How long would a conversation in Entish take though?

I am also but I would still be an Ent as I can't stand gardening.

Rose Cotton 02-01-2003 12:47 PM

Entish would be hard to learn since every word is really loooooooong!

Inderjit Sanghera 02-01-2003 12:47 PM

Yay! I want to be an Elf.....sorry.

Hmmm, there should be more sites on the Rangers, but they weren't in the movie so...

Gorwingel 02-03-2003 10:37 PM

We do need more Dwarf love, Gimli never gets enough respect, he is the one member of the fellowship that I think is ignored most of the time.
But I am glad that there is not any websites that are like "We love John Rhyes Davies", or "Gimli is so hot" that would be disturbing.

Elves are the perfect humans. People would like to be perfect. That's why.

the real findorfin 02-04-2003 06:42 AM

Its probably because the Silmarillion features Elves most of all the races, they have had the most exposure. and lets face it, they are pretty awesome.

PeregrinTook 02-04-2003 02:51 PM

Elves are way too perfect! Hobbits rock!

And people give me funny looks for my theory! I'm not the only one! Gimli-females united! Haha...I actually wish Tolkien had given us more about Dīs, the only Dwarf Queen...or just more about the Dwarves in general. I just gravitate towards the Elves because that is the race that Tolkien seemed to have developed the most, especially concerning culture, music, and language. And, as they said, they have The Silmarillion, an entire book nearly dedicated to the history of the Elves.

I disagree, Beren87. I think that The Silmarillion greatly decreases the Elves' perfection. They were not all peachy/happy during the book: there was a lot of treachery and death during the Elvish history. Sure, they get plopped back on Middle Earth after a time, but they still go through the whole "dying" process and they kill each other.

Morgul Queen 02-04-2003 09:28 PM

Come on what about Wraiths!!!
How can everyone forget about the Nazgul THE (in my opinion) coolest race (uh...sub-race) in middle-earth!!
