The Book of Records

Hello!
I have started FotR again, and today I found something that made me wonder:
When the Felloship was in Khazad-dûm, they entered the chamber of Mazarbul, Balin's tomb. There they found a book of records: The Book of Mazarbul, that spoke of the quest to reclaim Khazad-dûm. Gandalf gave the book to Gimli and to give it back to Dáin, if he ever got the chance.
So what happened to it? To my recollection there was no further mention of it, but maybe I just missed it.
If anyone knows, please let me know! Are there any theories?

to thorin oakenshield? he was killed in the battle of 5 armies. ah, thorin stonehelm, his son, just checked.
did jrrt "reproduce" the book of mazarbul as he "reproduced" the red book anywhere? it would be interesting to read. but it was very tattered and hard to read, wasnt it?

Btw, Stonehelm wasn't Oakenshield's son, he was Dain's son.

Yup... Thorin Oakenshield didn't have children he only had 2 sistersons Fili and Kili.

He reproduced three pages for the first edition of The Fellowship of the Ring, but they were left out to keep down the cost of publication. These pages are included in Pictures by J.R.R. Tolkien, and may be found on the web here.

Hmmm... He might have had a draft or two tucked away somewhere. You know, I really think those dwarves ought to start coming up with more original names. I mean, all you really see are Dain, Nain, Thrain, Thorin, and Durin repeated over and over again in the line of Durin.
