LOTR: Special Edition?

Does anyone know if PJ plans on doing some sort of Special Edition in the future for the trilogy? It definitely wouldn't hurt TTT to have some of those effects cleaned up in the future.

I'm not sure if you mean distant future or near future so I'll answer it with what I do know. I found a website(forgot the address)stating that there is going to be an extended version out later in 2003. No date is mentioned as of yet.

I meant besides the extended editions...they're doing that for every film. I mean after all is said and done...somewhere beyond 2004...

I would image once the last extended version of RoTK comes out, P.J. will scream "Free at last! Free at last!..." <P>I understand his and Fran's next film will be much smaller, on the level of "Heavenly Creatures". (Or perhaps "Meet the Feebles"?)

Yeah....The question is, do we really need any more? After the next two extended DVDs come out, there's gonna be about 11 hours of movie to watch everytime you have friends over...(lol). A special edition would be what....14? Once you think about it, they really don't need to.

I didn't mean add more footage - just clean up the effects, make them look better. Like the really obvious blue screen stuff, for example.

I heard PJ say he wanted to put the Gollum that is in Two Towers in the Fellowship ebcause they aren't the same even though you can barely see it. They changed his look between movies.

I think its pretty clear they're planning a 'definitive' edition of all three movies. Just look at all the info on the Sp. Edition - all the scenes they talk about shooting, the fact that Peter Jackson's original cut of Fellowship was 4 1/2 hours, etc. But I can't see them appearing for a good 5 years or so, so we haven't wasted our money on the Sp. Edition.
