Burning pile of Uruk-hai
Question. Saw the movie again today, and noticed that the smoke behind Legolas in the "what do your elven eyes see" scene was suspiciously similar to the smoke from the pyre of the slaughtered uruk-hai as pointed out by Eomer. Obviously, in the first they aren't dead yet, so could someone else explain that smoke to me? Thanks.

I believe what we see is dust whirled up by the running Uruk-hai's. The land seems to be pretty dry.
I can't remember the timing. If they weren't dead then I guess it would just be the dust from their rampage.
I never noticed the smoke the first time. I guess when I go back, I'll have to pay more attention!
I guess you're right, Maikadilwen, but that's irritating because I was hoping Legolas was reporting something that Aragorn couldn't see himself - and I'm sure Aragorn could have seen that dust-cloud. D'oh!
I think maybe the idea is that they both can see the dust cloud but Legolas's Super-Duper Elf-vision is able to positively ID the dust-kicker-uppers as Uruk-hai.

Where's that light bulb smiley when you need it Thanks
yep, definitely dust...at least that's how I interpreted it.
Was it me, or were the Uruks putting up a lot of smoke before the trio got there, but then it was only a bare mist when thry arrived. Burning to smoking in two minutes?
Well, this just gives me a reason to see it again! hee hee, and I may "miss" it next time too!
