Picture Of Smeagol?

I found this picture of Smeagol (or what I am assuming is Smeagol around the time when he first finds the ring) at <A HREF="http://www.serkis.com" TARGET=_blank>www.serkis.com</A> (Andy Serkis' Official Website) and I wanted to see if anybody else noticed it before and what you guys think about it.<P> <p>[ January 08, 2003: Message edited by: Davin ]

well, it doesnt look anything like a hobbit if you ask me. but it sure is serkis kind of picture.

Davin 01-08-2003 02:11 PM

It has pointyish ears...and Serkis didn't play an elf..so I am assuming it is supposed to be a hobbit. And the picture had text underneath saying it was <B>Smeagol/Gollum</B> from RotK...

Could be from after he had the ring for sometime and its effects where twisting him into the Gollum we all know and love

I don't know...and I don't like it if it is supposed to be Smeagol. I mean, he most certainly didn't looklike that before the ring or when he 'found' it. I hope they don't show this in RotK and say it's Smeagol. This guy kind of looks like Grima, sort of.

I have the TT movie book, and that picture is in there under the part about creating Gollum but they don't explain it. I was wondering what that was though. Seems to me, even if it was labeled with RotK, it would be more of a TT extended scene.

Well, I don't think Smeagol the Stoor picked up the One Ring and - POOF! - instantly became the bald, loincloth-wearing Stinker we all know and love. I would imagine that this is a pic of Smeagol undergoing a gradual transformation, perhaps after he has been cast out by his family and had been wandering in the Wilderness for awhile. <P>Maybe this is the moment when he decides to "take to the hills" and hide out under the mountains to escape from humankind and the skin-damaging rays of the Sun. Or maybe we're just seeing a really bad case of Ring-induced D.T.s. <p>[ January 09, 2003: Message edited by: Birdland ]

i thought they said he was supposed to be a river person or something like that not a hobbit. I haven't read the book yet but in the film it says that.

Atariel 01-09-2003 11:23 AM

You know what... according to the pronunciation notes Smeagol should be pronounced 'Smay-ah-gol', not 'smee-gol' as it is in the film. but i thought that they were nagged very specifically about their pronunciation. i thinnk the speech-coaches must have made a little boo-bo....<P>please write something if you disagree

Diamond18 01-09-2003 12:24 PM

As to the pronounciation...I don't know if it's "correct" or not. But I always pronounced it Smeegol when I read the book. Trying to say Smay-ah-gol...sounds, pardon the negativity, stupid. I mean...say it. I know I can't do it without pausing. So I personnaly can't imagine Elijah having to say it without the audience gong, "Huh?"<P>As to the picture, here is another one at the finding of the Ring, before he kills Déagol. You can compare the two:<P>

Looks like you beat me at posting it, Diamond.

Here's a pic of Smeagol during his transformation (probably towards the end), for those who would like to know:
