Gifts

In the extended fotr dvd, the scene where Galadriel gives the fellowship gifts is included. But she givs Aragorn nothing. In the book he is presented with a stone, the elfstone I think. Sam is only given hithlain rope, not the box with the powder. I guess this is because the scouring of the Shire is left out, but I can't explain why there is no elfstone. How are they going to do rotk without that?

It seems to me a lot of the gifts were different. Aragorn also got a scabbard. Boromir got a belt. Merry and Pippin did not get daggers but belts instead. Sam's rope was just part of the supplies they all got. It seems to me the only gifts that were the same were Legolas, Gimli and Frodo's.
I don't see how the elfstone is essential to RotK though. It's not as important as most of the other gifts we saw.
H.C.

Well in the book Galadriel's emerald broach is where Aragorn get's his throne name of Elessar, 'Elfstone' from, which is kind of important. On the other hand the name has already been introduced, (the Ring uses it when trying to tempt Aragorn) so maybe the broach isn't needed after all.

This isn't limited to only the movies, but I was wondering, where does Gimli keep his gift of the three hairs from Galadriel on his journies. Surely they would get lost or damaged in the fighting he does since leaving Lothlorien, especially since he and the others abandon most of their gear before they set out to chase the orcs with the hobbits.

Even if they did abanden most of their things, I don't think Gimli would leave it! And he probably kept them in something!
