In the old Interplay Lord of the Rings game for PC, the Forsaken Inn was run by a Dwarf (the name escapes me). You could go into the basement there. It is supposedly the last inn, but in MERP there...

Maybe this comes from MERP, but I can't get it out of my head that when the Eotheod lived East of Mirkwood, they were called the Eothraim? Anyway, the rolling plains that stretch from Erebor to Rhun...

The last thing I will mention is that Celeborn must move with great speed. Indeed, in the same day he crossed the Anduin and began the destruction of Dol Guldur. From the Eastern border of Lothlorien...

Sloppy construction on my part. But I know what you mean, Mirkwood is hard to navigate. If the army that fought against Thranduil did indeed issue from Dol Guldur, then Fonstad's route which remains...

Battles in the North

Let's talk about the Battles in the North (Mar 11-30, TA 3019).

There are many things to consider. I have been looking at Karen Wynn Fonstad's The Atlas of MIddle Earth and RotK "Tale of the...

Born of Hope and The Hunt for Gollum

A couple of things:

The thing that really bothered me about these two fan films - and I like almost everything else about them - was their adherence to Jackson's style. Not just costumes, but...

Casting Bilbo

I had a thought about Bilbo: David Mitchell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Mitchell_%28actor%29)from "Peep Show."

How It Should Have Ended

I always thought the perfect LotR movie would show "Later Events Concerning the Members of the Fellowship of the Ring" while credits rolled. Sort of a montage showing Samwise becoming Mayor, Merry...

Thanks so much for your insights, guys. Just curious if any of you modified the order of actions in battles - as someone who comes from an initiative-type background, it is really hard for me to...

Sting Middle Earth Roleplaying (MERP)

I am new to the forum. I have recently discovered ICE's Middle Earth Roleplaying and I was wondering about downers' thoughts on it. I have heard most of the complaints already and am curious to...

This appeared on theonering.net recently as well. The Estate was less of a problem - they just needed more money thrown at them. However, if there is no money...

I have long though that Ian Holm should narrate even if he didn't play Bilbo (he won't). The BBC radio version featured Bilbo interacting with the narrator and it was quite charming. Having Bilbo...

I think it most likely that Tom is a Melian-like being. However, he is deeply in touch with the Earth and nothing else really - kind of like uber Radagast. Tom is a traditional woodland spirit out of...

Possible Strange Changes to "The Hobbit"

This is pure speculation, but I thought a thread trying to predict what changes will be made in the adaptation of The Hobbit would be fun. For instance, their plan to develop the White Council stuff...

Martin is not for you if you have a weak stomach. He is not the American Tolkien. No one is the Tolkien. He is not a linguist. He was screenwriter and sci-fi author before he took up High Fantasy....

The quote you mentioned seems to be the primary argument for the region as the capital. However, it may have just been a more defensible area than the capital. It was a refuge in later days and I...

I think Inziladun is probably right. Intersting about the parachuting hippos, Rumil. I agree that some of the elements of MERP seem to be as alien to Tolkien as hippo paratroopers, but at their best...

Sting The Capital of Cardolan

This question mostly has to do with MERP. I am trying to figure out if the standard MERP line is that Thalion is the capital of Cardolan or Tyrn Gorthad? I'm talking pre-1356 TA.
