Simple. Sam impregnated Rosie when he first got back from The Quest, and when her father, Tolman Cotton, found out, he made Sam marry his daughter. Sam and Rosie had a "cross-bow wedding", and shortly after, they had their first daughter, Elanor. Why did Gandalf refuse to take the fellowship through Moria?
