I agree. Don't be too hard on Isildur. The power of the Ring was so great it was probably beyond
any mortal to harm it. Frodo was unable to even throw it into a small fire.
Because it was in Mordor, very close to Mt. Doom, the Ring would have been at nearly the height of its power as well.
