While digging through old threads to review projects I am involved with, I found this thread.

The wicked Wight ensnared me, luring me into his MUSH where I spent many hours building this and that with these and those!

The time of the MUSH has moved up to about 3 years after Bilbo went There and Back Again.

Enchanting Rivendell is still hidden out there, and unfinished Minas Anor is there as well as a few other constructions.

We have built rugged Dale, laying out its streets and completing it's larger Keeps. There are a few buildings and roads and plenty of land for houses and crops. There is a fine tavern THE DRAGON'S PERCH, and a few other places besides. If you're in good shape, you can climb the battlements of King Bard's Keep. Try not to get yourself thrown in his dungeon.

You can take a boat down the River Running to the Long Lake all the way down past Lake Town's settlement, reconstruction, and the old ruins of Esgaroth down to the Forest River.

There are already several interesting things to see and do, but there is much more work to be done before the BARROW DOWNS MUSH is ready to entertain.

CURRENTLY UNDER DEVELOPMENT:

Erebor, the Kindom Under The Mountain, is being designed. So is the Woodland Realm of Thranduil.

An exhaustive geographical study of THE ATLAS OF MIDDLE-EARTH has produced a precisely scaled electronic spreadsheet grid map of every major road, river and shoreline of traditional Middle-earth. Now, as we build and connect the settlements, we know exactly how far and in what direction everything is!

BW has essentially completed a weather and time system for the entire continent. Time passes and the weather changes. We actually transposed Middle-earth and its geographic distances to our own globe to ensure accurate sunrise and sunset, etc. There are zones of weather conditions that change with your latitude and altitude! Great ambience! It makes a real difference when the snow falls...

We have been working on water currents. If you get caught up a fast stream, you may wish you had a paddle!

In short, we hope that you will find travel in this MUSH to be as virtually real a Middle-earth experience as we can make it.

The idea right now is for it to be a simple and user-friendly MUSH, designed more for the pure delight of having it (and building it) as a setting for discussion or friendly play. I've been disappointed with the rigid and hideously complex gaming rituals suffered elsewhere. I have found some other MUSHes to be difficult in the extreme, with many hoops to jump through, and some less than friendly folk running the place! We're hoping for something that is easy and enjoyable for the visitor. Something just for fun, but as true as possible to Tolkien's work. <img src=smile.gif ALT=""> So far, even at this stage in the experimental phase, we think it has proven to be so.

Of course, long term hobby projects like this take a lot of time to develop, but this is the kind of thing we hope eventually to accomplish. At some point, we will turn a corner in the project and say, &quot;It is complete enough! Let's put it out there and keep perfecting it!&quot;

The wicked Wight's scheme to ensnare you in will succeed yet! You, too, will fall to the evil lure of his designs!

Muah ha ha ha hah!
