Idaho can actually be great for outdoorsy people. And skiing is great. So is whitewater rafting, camping, wildlife, farming... but here's the catch. Boise is a really small "biggest city in the state." I mean REALLY small. The economy is going downhill when it was bad already, there are only about five colleges in Idaho, and there are very few job opportunities. Another thing is some people can't stand the cold. My friend has a condition where she's very cold-blooded, and she hates going out in the winter.
For another thing, public education is basically bad, and getting worse. Last year Gov. Kempthorne cut the budget for public schools in half. When I get to high school, I have to go halfway across town one period a day just to take Latin. There are other classes they cut out completely. They're giving more money to the prisons than they are to children. When I go to college, I'm definitely going out of state.
Then there's just big dreamers. There's no showbiz in Idaho, no outstanding colleges (except maybe Albertsons). I want to expand my horizons, and I can't do it here.
So there ya go. That's why I'd leave Idaho.
