My two grandmothers, brother, mom and dad were sitting at the table eating dinner. I wanted the mashed potatoes, so I said to my mother, "Please pass the taters."
My mother evidently didn't hear what I'd said: "What?"
I answered, louder and enunciating, "Po-ta-toes."
As she passed them to me, it struck me what I'd said. I wanted to burst out laughing, but no one would have understood even if I
