The "assault" begins at 11:00pm. If candlestones can run until at least 12:00, it will take some pressure off the troops, i.e. for a period of time they need only worry about guards coming from the tunnels, not the main cave (Hobbit's will also protect the troops' positions, taking out any stray guards wandering the wrong way).

For timing purposes, if Gamba is taken at 12, how are the guards going to take him out of the caverns? The Exit Tunnels will be covered by then. He'll have to be seized before 11.
