"I am sure we could find a way to convince them," Tallin said.

Raye was standing at the doorway when she overheard the invitation. Quickly, she moved to Tallin's side.
"How many more do you plan to invite, Tallin?" she whispered. "This is a dangerous quest we go on, not some walking fest."
"Berethion and Hwesta may come of some use to us," Tallin responded. "It will be good to have them both at our side."
"I have been to the Grey Mountains. I know what dangers lie in our path. It would be better for us to reach the mountains unoticed by our enemies," Raye argued, gritting her teeth.
"You will lead us to the Grey Mountains, Raye, but you won't decide for us who comes and who doesn't," the wolf tamer said, pushing Raye away.
She turned back to Hwesta. "So, how about it?"
Hwesta shook her head. "It is impossible. You will never convince my parents to let me go with you, especially with my brothers gone."

Raye stood several feet away from Tallin, her hand fixed on one of her daggers. She stared at the wolf tamer with rage, no longer listening to the conversation. She knew Tallin would not give up in finding a way to bring both Berethion and Hwesta along, with their parents' permission or not.
Normally, Raye would've killed anyone who dared to argue with her. But something held her back. And it wasn't the fact that she was surrounded by several others.
Still, everything that did and did not happen in those last few moments did not matter to Raye. The murderess had plans of her own. She would find ways to eliminate those who traveled with her. It should be easy, as the treachery she claimed lies ahead is not so much a lie.
