Hwestlaeriel woke up alone. Her head really hurt and there were funny lights blinking in front of her eyes. On and off, on and off, on and off...they just kept flashing in her mind. She blinked and the lights stopped, leaving only her throbbing head. She put her hand to the painful spot, wincing as lights flashed again as she touched her head, and pulled her hand away. That hand was curiously wet. She brought her hand to her mouth. The wetness was most definitely blood. Hwestlaeriel looked around in the dark. She was alone in a little cell. What had happened? There were the Dark Elves and the arguing and the imprisonment, but what happened after that? She had been quickly knocked out, apparently, for she did not remember being abducted nor anything about being brought to this damp, dark room.
Hwestlaeriel tried to stand, but immediately got a spell of dizziness, forcing her to sit back down for a second. She slowly stood again, and felt her way to the wall. The wall was hard, stone apparently. She briefly leaned on the wall, trying to get her bearings in the pitch dark.
She felt around herself, trying to see what supplies she still had. She realized that nearly everything had been taken from her, leaving her only in what clothing she had under her cloak.
Berethion. Where was Berethion? He had not been with them, had he? Was he nearby? Could he hear her? He could save her; he always saved her when a crisis arose.
"Berethion!" Hwestlaeriel yelled. She doubled over, for the yell had caused another dizzy spell.
She listened for a time, but there was no answer. Hwestlaeriel began to shiver. It was cold here, was it not? There was no fire nearby, that was certain.
Hwestlaeriel slid down the wall, crying softly. Why could she not see? Why was it so dark? Why was Berethion not here to aid her now, when she needed him the most? Where was she? Where were the others?
Hwestlaeriel sat alone and frightened in the dark, wondering why she ever left her comfortable home.
