Umbria continued talking ot the ranger in a chair by the fire. "Why do you shy away from me when i look at you Alaemas?" Umbria turned her sharp eyes on Alaemas, now who desparatly tried to avoid eye contact.
"come, you still dont believe that old legend do you? The one about the ones who see?" She had touched a nerve deep in Alaemas' body. "youre not scared of me still are you?" She smiled and lay her hand on top of his, to which he gasped and pulled his hand into the recesses of his cloak.
"your touch is like ice!" he stammered "so you know we keep watch, but what for? This area is being watched by the wild people, to keep the peace and towns safe we must in turn watch." Umbria continued to look at him, emotionless.
Suddenly Alaemas noticed how much sadness had crept it's way deep into her soul. He could tell she had been kept inside, because her skin which used to be tinged bronze from what he remembered of their first meeting on the West Road, was now pale with years of keep. Her snow hair still, as it had always been, kept behind her grey eyes and under her lilac hooded claok that she always wore concealing her eternal youth.
Umbria looked into the fire as Alaemas spoke. " I have met many elves in my travells, Elfsun, but none like you, you say there is good in you, but in that good lies evil."
"I have been kept away Alaemas" Umbria sighed confirming his thoughts."I am what i am, for good or for evil. I live what life I have, or dont." she was quiet, Alaemas spoke again.
" I have some news for you. A woman, half-elven, I saw im Minas Tirith, looked like you, the same eyes..." Umbria stopped, breath caught in her chest. Still she stared at the fire. Alaemas spoke again. "her name was Aeryn."
Umbria threw a hard piercing stare at Alaemas. "Do not speak that name, for it's wearer is dead!" Umbria closed her eyes.
"not dead" Alaemas replied " your daughter is very much alive. she is your daughter isnt she." Umbria frowned "do not use my shame against me, I loved Augenden, but he has been dead 2000 years. Do you not think I regret what has been done!" Umbria was now quite distraught.
