The Ruling Ring has just left Hobbiton.

Maeralagos stood outside the place of interview, shifting nervously on his feet. He had been told to depart, that he would be part of this mission, yet he knew not what to do now. When he'd returned to his post, word had already reached there of his acceptance, and he'd been told not to bother on the guard today, but to go and prepare himself. Only, he could not think how to prepare.

He did not know who else was going, where precisely they were going, and when they'd be leaving, though he fervently hoped this would be soon. Suddenly, the opening at the doorway parted, and the dull nausea in Maeralagos' stomach swelled with his nerves, seeing another Elf emerge.

As Durelin departed, Maeralagos caught him by the elbow, releasing him as soon as the Elf turned. He did not really know Durelin, though he knew him well enough to know his name, and to wish to treat him with respect.

"Durelin," he said softly, "forgive me, but--what did the man say to you? What are we to do?"
