Here Ye, Here Ye, Hear Ye
A Royal Proclamation
By the authority of King Thorin III Stonehelm, of the Kingdom of Erebor, Under the Mountain, it is hereby decreed that:
Dwarven women do not have beards.
The official pronouncing this decree then distributed a Press Release which elaborated on the proclamation. It read in part that, in ages past, when dwarven women were forced to travel through unknown lands, they were required to travel under disguise, so that they could not be distinguished from male dwarves. This was to ensure their protection in unsafe realms. It is regrettable that the bard Tolkien was not entirely clear or forthcoming about this matter.
An addendum to the proclamation was as follows:
Any opinions concerning this matter on the part of the Honourable Delegation from the Blue Mountains will be entertained by Thorin III Stonehelm through PM.
Signed,
Bethberry,
Press Secretary to Thorin III
