I see the point in that it does not directly correspond with the Melian + Thingol theory (Thingol being an intelligent creature with a fea), but what about Ungoliant and her offspring? I guess what I'm asking is, Is it physically possible for a maia in animal form to produce offspring with a true animal? As obloquy says, it's highly likely that Tolkien would not have allowed this on the good guy team, but did he allow it on the evil side because Ungoliant's spirit was already so preverse? Was she technically incarnate because of the evil she had committed? Thoughts?
