Gollum is like those with the thorney ground in their heart, they recive the word but they let the things of the world choke the good seed, and the things of this world dont always mean clothes or cd players but they can also mean things that are worshipped in acess,in Gollums case it was the Ring. I think that if he had not been so overly worshippfull of the Ring then Frodo would have been able to reach him but he would not let the Ring go and it finely destroyed him. I'm not saying that things of the world are bad I mean some of them are but things like a cd player or makeup or money are'nt,what I mean is that you dont need to worship those things in ecess.Like if we have some sin in our life and it keeps on growing till it consumes us then we are like Gollum, wretched in Gods sight, pittiful to the other people around us,and sooner or later we'll get destroyed or caught or whatever. That is why it's som importent to let go of the "Ring" in our life because sooner or later we'll end up wretched and pitiable.
But then he could also represent those who have not come to Jesus, needing a shepard to lead them letting sin and care of the world to overwhelm them, and it's up to us to show Jesus' love to them, just like he showed the adultress compassion and love, we need to show them that Jesus' lives within us,and through loving them we will show that.
I hope this has not overoffended anyone on the Barrow Downs if it has please tell me so I can set things straight with you, I dont like offending anybody.*gets up from sitting face to face with the other Sam at the hearth, bows and with a small sheepish grin walks out the door singing the bath song*
sing hey for the bath at close of...
Samwise at your service (I like winking)

Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons. For you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
