I disagree, Arwen. That was one of the things I liked about the movie. In the book, Boromir was a bit cold and never very friendly to anyone (until the end, and that wasn't friendliness so much as necessary defense), but the screenwriters for the movie humanized him by showing a soft and playful side with Merry and Pippin.
