When I was a kid, back in the mid 80's ('84 or '85) my uncle has this stack of books next to his bed that had been on his nightstand as long as I could remember. I was kind of afraid to look at them because they were obviously special to him. One day I got the nerve to ask him about them and he handed them to me and said "Go read them and then ask me about them again." I sat down and in the course of about a week I read <I>the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings,</I> and <I>the Silmarillion</I>. I've been hooked ever since.
