I think we are to believe that Aragorn gave them special swords. I remember this being discussed somewhere...somewhere back in the deeps of time before FotR came out. I cannot direct you to it...but I think the generel conclusion is that Aragorn would have no trouble getting hold of Westernesse swords that he could give to the hobbits.<P>Of course the real consequence is that we can't use images from that part in the movie (since it wasn't there!) as avatars.
