The reference to Disney in that letter is the only one in Tolkien's published correspondance detailed enough to allow me to draw a conclusion. His reference to "the Disney studios" and specific requirement that the illustrations for <I>The Hobbit</I> in no way resemble their work imply to me that he objected on artistic grounds to the very appearance of whatever Disney films he happened to have seen.
