I like that idea, Mark - would this involve us actually getting dragged off to the palace? Because I'm pretty sure the dwarves aren't going to stand for that. Hows about we have the mayhem etc, then the dwarves high-tail it away, and the Prince (shall we say this is the pre-war, fifty years younger version of Legolas?) sends one of his elves to accompany them - like Thorgeleb, as you kindly volunteered him. Later, the dwarves may notice there is an elf following them (possibly they will get lost and he will help them? A thought maybe. Balin's one of those guys who will never,
ever ask for directions, methinks...
), but they will restrain themselves from attacking again, putting up with him until they are out of the forest. Hey, maybe this could even be the start of the change between dwarves and elves...or not
