LMP, I don’t know when it’s done is the short answer. I’m always changing words and sentence structures to make it flow better. The only problem with the ‘scene-link’ cure is that usually the links I make up are really bad, so I probably spend more time working on improving those than on the writing I should be doing.
Fictionpress is pretty good. Basically the idea is you post up your chapters and other people read and review them. However reviews are few and far between, and good ones even more so. Most people are lucky to get one review per chapter. I’ve only ever had one actual good critique out of the reviews that weren’t from people I knew personally – most of the reviews are like ‘Oh this is really good, please write more soon!’ There is a sort of camaraderie, but generally it’s one of those ‘I read your work, now you read mine’ type things more than anything else.
By the way, what did you mean by ‘think about telling the reader no more than she needs to know’? I’m curious. PM me or leave me a message at FWW and we’ll talk some more about this.
