ok I have been thinking hard about this as I really like Astalder and his family (always typical for the writer to want to hang on to her character huh!

) But the only way I see him leaving is if he is ordered too!

I do see there being a confrontation between him and Lan'kash, perhaps after he mortally wounds the Captain. But how that goes will depend on Mano, if he agrees to have Lan'kash die then a dieing Anhelm can order him to retreat. But if Lan'kash is to live he will have to defeat Astalder, no easy feat

but I see them as pretty equally matched.

so the long and short of it is: if Lan'kash is to die then Astalder lives
but if Lan'kash is to live Astalder will die.
