Well, I didn't start until the first year I moved in with Bilbo.

If you look in the family trees in appendix C, you will see that some of the hobbt names are underlined, those are the ones that were at Bilbo's party.

Pippin was 11 at the time of the party, Mery was 16. I suppose that Pippin was part of the youn Tooks and Brandybucks that tok the mysical instruments from the crackers and made a makeshift orchestra that played during Bilbo's speech. In fact, I think I remeber seeing him there!
