The reason I read the books was because of the movies. I had heard of The Lord of the Rings (books), but that's all I knew. Then the movies came out, and I didn't even want to go see them at first because I had no idea what they were about. I finally saw The Fellowship a while after The Two Towers came out. I saw it because we were playing the music from The Fellowship in my orchestra class, and all my friends in there
loved the movies, so I just had to see what the big deal was. I soon found out. I absolutely LOVED the movies!! In fact I loved them so much, I just had to read the books. I was kind of disappointed that Peter Jackson left out some important details, like in the Fellowship how Frodo waits 13 years before he does anything about the ring!!!! That made me mad, but I guess Jackson couldn't put everything in the movies (that would be a very long movie).
So if I hadn't seen the movies I wouldn't have known how good Tolkien's stuff was, and I probably wouldn't have read the books.
